category national | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Thursday June 12, 2008 18:42author by Anti Imperialist - Ógra Shinn Féinauthor email osfnational at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Ógra Shinn Féin will participate in the protests against George Bush and US lead War in Iraq when he is expected in Belfast next Monday 16th June.

The protest will highlight their anger over the ongoing US occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Speaking on the upcoming protest, National Organiser of Ógra Shinn Féin, Barry McColgan said;

"We will be mobilising our activists next Monday to send a message loud and clear that the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan are illegal and must come to an end."

"Thousands upon thousands of Iraqi and Afghanistan citizens, including women and children have been unnecessarily killed, the stability of these nations have been shaken to the core, and the sovereignty of its peoples stolen and ignored."

"The protest next Monday must resonate with the incoming US president that the ongoing occupations are illegal, inhumane and must be ended."

"While we will be visibly and vocally protesting, the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will meet with George Bush and raise these concerns with him."

Well you may debate whether or not McGuinness invited him, but what is beyond question is that, at the very least, he has enthusiastically welcomed the visit.

And that in itself is an absolute disgrace.

I fear well intentioned people in SF and Ogra will embarass themselves by attempting to keep up the ruse that their leadership has any credibility left on issues such as this.

Just because you read it in a newspaper doesnt mean its true. Gordon Brown invited George Bush to Belfast, not McGuinness.

Mcguiness has dedicated his entire life to fighting imperialism, he put his life on the line and was willing to suffer the harshest interogation and imprisonment in anti imperialist struggle.

Your gonna go to a protest and then go home and pick your belly button.

It is only logical that Martin meet with Bush. During the peace process Jim Gibney of Sinn Fein, the one that once talked of creative marxism, described US imperialism as having a progressive role in Ireland. Most of the left went along with this charade including some on this thread. The peace process in Ireland was endorsed explicitly or at least implicitly by most as somehow being progressive. They never explained how or why imperialism would be in favour of peace in one place and war elsewhere, though it is obvious, in Ireland imperialism won, the provos roled over and surrendered. Not just because they handed in their weapons, which is actually a minor point, when they had already handed in their ideas and demands, brits out, secular society etc for managing a sectarian statelet.

I realize that the great only appear great because they have the power, the wealth and the weaponry to control other governments of the world. They need only click their fingers and countrys like Ireland with it's corrupt politicians the likes Ahern will open our airports for their torture flights. Why should we be left out, after all we fought Britain for 30 years and got no where. Now we must grab what we can for ourselves and throw a few crumbs down to those who follow us. Our future is bright even if we must step into the halls of darkness with heads bowed in subservience.

Just to clarify Mr McGuinness has invited Mr Bush to visit Ireland. Its not as if he is a passive observer in this process. McGuinness is well aware of the destruction that the US imperialists have wrought on the people of Iraq so why has he invited him in the first instance. Spare us the pseudo revolutionary horse shit please.

Adams and McGuinness have realised that the past forty years of violence have been a complete and utter waste of time.

The best way to bring about an end to partition is firstly engaging in a adult fashion in the bread and butter politics of local Northern Ireland politics to build up friendships and political relationships with loyalism.

That is going to be a hard and tortuous journey that will take decades especially after years of bitter political, ethnic and religious conflict.

Most of all Northern Ireland needs cash - British and American industries can provide employment to both communities.
To work together loyalists and republicans cannot live in segregated workplaces.

Blinkered socialists and die-hard republican reactionaries mirror the loyalist die-hards offer no solutions to the conflict and no solutions to the much neglected Northern Ireland economy - except more of the same bullshit about class struggle from the socialists, creating an all Gaelic Irish Republic from the republican wingnuts and no surrender hysteria from the loyalists.

As a Fianna Fail voter I welcome the arrival of the Sinn Fein leadership in the real world except for their naked attempts to get free publicity by opposing the Lisbon Treaty.

Ogra Sinn Fein had better make up their minds, whether they accept that the only viable system of societal organisation is liberal pluralist democratic capitalism or myopic nationalist command economy lunacy.

The hard left are in danger of living in a hermetically sealed bell jar drowning in formaldehyde.

Colleen, do you honestly believe for one minute that America, especially Bush would exert pressure on their close allies, The Brits? We all seen the threats of $inn Feign when they threatened to collapse the executive and backed down and don't give us Ah buts, they are spineless when it comes down to the crunch.
It looks ridiculous when the former Republican is meeting with the Mass Murderer while the youth wing of $inn Feign are protesting outside.
I await for more embarrassing statements from McGuinness as he fawns over Bush.

The hypocrisy is incredible - Martin McGuinness invited George Bush to Northern Ireland, and now Ogra Sinn Fein have the nerve to join in the protests - pathetic! The protests aren't just against Bush they are also against the Assembly polticians who will be licking Bush's ass while he is here, including the Shinners.

Whats with this crazy attitudes of not meeting with people?

There was a time when republicans where excluded from meeting such meetings and now we have fought hard to end this isolation we should engage with those who have the hands on the levers of powers to press our demands. And of course use it to our benefit and our advantage.

Martin McGuinness released a statement today saying that he would raise both our concerns over the ongoing occupation of Iraq, US foreign polcy and the case of the undocumented Irish.

We have used US position as a mega power to exert pressure on the Brits in the peace process.

The same way the PKK engage and use US assistance for the strategic benefit of their struggle.

And the same way, if given an opportunity Hamas would meet with the US if it would help end the isolation of the Gaza strip.

Don't isolate yourself Big Mac! Engage with people... it's good to talk.

The liberal left have disintegrated morally to the extent that they support terrorists like Al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah who are virulently and violently anti-semitic, anti-democratic, anti-modern and anti-sexual equality and are opposed to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and the Taliban because American capitalism is seen as the greater evil.

It is truly bizarre that hatred of the right and George Bush has led to a hellish alliance between so-called progressives who supposedly want a uptopian, secular, economically equal society blind to differences in ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and religious belief and Islamist terrorists who are diametrically and murderously opposed to everything to the left are supposed to stand for.

Today ironically we find that it is neo-conservatives who support (that support of course is motivated by capitalist interest) humanitarian intervention and who support regime change in countries plagued by savage injustice whether it is North Korea, Zimbabwe or Cuba.

Liberals are so-hate filled they must abandon progressive and liberals in those beknighted countries who need their help.

I welcome George W. Bush to Northern Ireland, beause instead of indulging Sinn Fein/IRA while they sheltered the murderer of McCartney, he told them to stand out in the cold until they disarmed.

America is our friend and Ireland is America's friend.
