Jump To Comment: 2 1Taha Azadi, a member of the executive committee of the Free Union of Workers in Iran has been summoned to court for the second time. Mr. Azadi was to appear in court on February 16, 2009. He is charged with propaganda against the system. Mr. Azadi, along with Javanmir Moradi (also on the FUWI EC), were arrested in May for participating in May Day events and spent 47 days in prison and endured physical and emotional torture. Taha Azadi and Javanmir Moradi, both member of board of directors of Free Union of Workers in Iran, were released on a $10,000 bail. They were arrested in Asalooyeh - Booshehr on May Day and were jailed for 47 days.
Still awaiting an update on what happened at the court.
Here is the text of a letter sent by Senator David Norris to the Ayetollah & to the President of Iran.
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei,
Office of the Supreme Leader,
Islamic Republic Street,
Shahid Keshvar Doust Street,
Tehran,
Iran.
22 May 2008
Dear Ayatollah,
I am greatly concerned at reports reaching Europe about the detention ofJavanmir Moradi and Taha Azadi who are members of the executivecommittee of the Free Union of Iranian Workers. Any democracy and indeedany decent society will permit the development of the representative ofworkers. Apparently their offence was to celebrate May Day which wouldnot appear to me or to any person who I respect to constitute a crime. Iwould like therefore to protest at the treatment of these people and thebrutalisation of their families and to call for their immediate andunconditional release and that of all jailed workers and socialactivists. I look forward to a reply.
Yours sincerely,
