You have a few minutes left to enjoy this year's international day of the Romani nation or the Roma. Historically despite their undoubted influence on many musical traditions including flamenco, bolero, zidane or gypsy jazz as well as classical composers such as Liszt, Btrahms & Barton - they have often been the focus of persecution. |

Romani nation? I thought they weren't a nation?
"they are often not made as welcome as they undoubtedly are in Ireland."
Don't know what you have seen, but I believe the general public has as much respect for them as our 'indigenous' travellers, except maybe they don't seem as violent so people feel it is more fair game to show disgust.
I've always wondered what it is about travelling people that make others so unconfortable.
