The BBC obviously leans heavily Left, says one former staff member, writing anonymously in the Daily Sceptic. But to the people who work there, their right-on views are just the 'normal' and 'objective' way to think.

Women are being told it's "uncool" and "Republican" to have a boyfriend, with some even cropping out their partners' heads on holiday snaps. This is not going to help the birth rate or women's happiness, says Joanna Gray.

Trust in the BBC has been collapsing for years. For many, it finally died during Covid when the national broadcaster took on the role of chief cheerleader for the lockdowns, no dissent allowed. A reckoning is long overdue.

category international | environment | event notice author Wednesday February 27, 2008 19:43author by tracey - gluaiseacht Report this post to the editors

Join gluaiseacht in a weekend of action in London culminating in a protest at Shell HQ on St Patricks day

PLEASE CIRCULATE

GLUAISEACHT are mobilising people from all over Ireland to travel to London this St. Patrick's weekend to "return the pipeline to Shell!"

We are bringing a 70ft pipeline to Shell H.Q. on St Patrick's day to protest against the give away and mismanagement of our natural resources and to show our solidarity with the Shell to Sea campaign.

Buses will leave from Limerick and Dublin on Friday 14th of March and meet at the Dail at 5pm to protest at our government's complicity in the Corrib gas project. From there we will embark on a weekend of actions in London highlighting the corrupt deal our government has done with Shell and the destruction of a area of extreme natural beauty. The weekend will culminate in a protest at shell H.Q. on St Patrick's Day where we "return the pipeline".

We feel there is a good opportunity on St Patrick's weekend when there is so much good will towards Ireland to draw international attention to what is going on in Mayo.
If you want to join us get in touch with your nearest regional organiser:

IRISH TIMES FRIDAY MARCH 14th

LORNA SIGGINS, Western Correspondent

A BENEDICTINE monk from Glenstal Abbey is among a group of environmentalists leaving for London today to deliver a length of pipeline to the headquarters of Royal Dutch Shell plc.

Brother Anthony Keane is representing Gluaiseacht, a network of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) concerned with environmental and social justice issues.

The St Patrick's Day protest in London will be peaceful, but aims to highlight the "giveaway and mismanagement" of the State's natural resources, the network says. The group intends to demonstrate outside the Dáil this evening before its departure.

Brother Anthony, who is a forester at Glenstal Abbey in Co Limerick, said it was time the State followed the example of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in relation to multinational oil and gas companies. "Chavez's approach is that we don't need them as owners, but we may use them as partners," he told The Irish Times.

Brother Anthony said that Irish people would "not benefit" from the Corrib gas project in north Mayo, as it would destroy a pristine environment and the health and safety of a local community, and the State would have to buy back gas from Shell at an "ever-increasing international market value".

Shell consultants RPS say that they are not yet able to announce a "preferred" route for the Corrib gas onshore pipeline. Public consultation on the modification finished on January 18th last.
