Thirty Left-wing MPs have written to Ofcom to press it to censor X under the Online Safety Act. The evidence of 'hate' on the platform is threadbare, but it's obvious why they want to clip its wings, says Laurie Wastell.

Potatoes For Bertie Ahern 2008

category dublin | arts and media | press release author Thursday February 14, 2008 13:06author by Press Release - Artist Report this post to the editors

Performance Artist Mark Mc Gowan to pull 300 kg of potatoes from Ballymun to the Dail

The Famous London based performance artist Mark
McGowan who once pushed a peanut along the road with
his nose for 7 miles is coming to Dublin.....

POTATOES FOR BERTIE AHERN 2008

In an extra ordinary art performance, artist Mark
McGowan is to dress up as the An Taoiseach Bertie
Ahern and crawl on his hands and knees, while
attempting to pull an incredible 300 kilos of potatoes
(in a large bulk aggregate bag attached to his leg by
a piece of string), along the road for an amazing 4
miles, in Dublin, Ireland. The intention is
to show the people of Ireland the difficulties and
struggles of being the Irish Leader, he has the weight
of Ireland along with his own personal problems, such
as the Mahon Inquiry to deal with, and this
performance
is an attempt to show everyone just how hard it is
being Bertie Ahern. The event starts in Ballymun at
11am on February 28th 2008 at the Old Swimming Pool,
beside the shopping centre on Ballymun Main St and
ends at Bertie
Ahern's local, Fagans in Drumcondra just opposite
where his clinic
is. McGowan will present the
potatoes as a gift/art piece for Bertie.

McGowan says, "I think people give Bertie Ahern a hard
time and i for one believe him to be a wonderful man
and a great leader of the Irish nation. Unfortunately
the recent Mahon Inquiry is very difficult for Bertie
and I want to show the people of Ireland how hard it
must be for him, he has always done his best.
I am not sure how long the performance will take, it
will definitely be a struggle, but i am in training
and hopefully it will be a fantastic art event and
lots of people from the Ballymun area will come out
and show their support, they might even line the
route.
