Lost Highway Expedition

category international | arts and media | opinion/analysis author Monday February 11, 2008 11:22author by C Murray Report this post to the editors

It Really should come to Ireland

The Lost Highway Expedition is currently in Sarajevo and comprises a network of
groups, individuals and artists who are 'moving roughly along the unfinished Highway
of Brotherhood and Unity in the former Yugoslavia'.
Previous project :- Shadows in Manhattan
Previous project :- Shadows in Manhattan

Interesting projects on the pages include the 2004 Manhattan Shadows Project.

(the illustration above is part of the project at the time).

The LHE is incredibly interesting, cos it becomes a Highway of Brotherhood and non-unity
and those who set out on the trip together can leave at any point and do not follow a
prescribed course.

The Cities visited were generally along this line:-

Ljubljana, Zagreb, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Skojpe, Pristina, Tirana, Podgorica.

The Group is part of the open source exchange network and many of the architects,
artists, writers come from all over the world, there is an extensive list on the web pages
of projects and participants.

Thats the thing with cities that are globalised for profit, they produce often squat political
parties who skim the cream of globalised economies without investigating how
urban spaces are designed for profit and not to provide living places for people.
We translate this mediocrity in Ireland as 'Fast-track planning', which creates
ghettoes and destruction, by refusing to investigate the issue of progress enhanced
by synthesis. That would include the work of such luminaries as the Late Liam Lawlor.
