On BBC Politics Chris Packham claimed "something called science" is evidence that the recent Dubai flooding was caused by climate change. But there's nothing scientific about the models that 'prove' that, says Paul Sutton.

The Church of England announced £100m in reparations for profiting from the slave trade. But now a historian has shown this is a mistake: the church never profited from slavery. Will the woke ever get their history right?

Derry anti-war militants are travelling to Lebanon

category international | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Monday July 23, 2007 14:29author by MichaelY - iawm Report this post to the editors

Members of the Derry Anti War Coalition (DAWC) are travelling to Lebanon this week

To take part in a commemoration ceremony for those killed in Qana by Israeli bombing last year.
That;s who we are
That;s who we are

The delegation will be in Qana on Sunday to take part in memorial events organised by the town council.

On Monday, July 30th, the anniversary of the Qana massacre, the delegation will lay a memorial stone marking the deaths of the 27 local people, the majority of them children and women, who died in the basement of an apartment building in which they had sought shelter. An Israeli guided bomb unit---or “bunker buster---brought the building down, crushing those in the basement to death.

The anti-war movement has evidence that the bomb used at Qana had been supplied to the Israeli defence forces by Raytheon. The incident sparked the occupation of the Raytheon plant at Springtown, Derry, on August 9th last year.

Nine members of the DAWC face charges arising from the occupation and the alleged destruction of computer equipment on the premises.

The memorial stone being laid by the Derry group has been designed by the Irish artist, Shane Cullen. The inscription on it, appear in Arabic and English, reads:

Qana, Derry.
The dead lie in familiar shapes.
No-one who struggles for justice is a stranger.
No-one who dies for justice is forgotten.
Derry, Qana,
The miracle is love.
One world, One struggle.

Laid on behalf of the anti-war people of Derry, Ireland. July 30th 2007.

Would you do the same for every Israeli woman, man and child killed by Hizballah's Katyusha's?

My respect and admiration to the people involved in these noble gestures. It's important that somebody extends the hand of solidarity and civilisation to the gravely wronged people of Lebanon to let them know that we as a people are abhorred by what was perpetrated against them.

Our government is a source of shame in it's silence on these matters.

Thanks for breaking that Silence.

This is what legal friends would call a 'leading question' - I will answer it, however, with all the seriousness and sincerity it deserves.

(1) The question equates victim with victimiserr.....it distorts reality that thousands of civilian Lebanese were massacred by the IDF last year - over and above what the Israeli Army has done during its recurring incursions into Lebanon over the last 30 years.....the Katyushas Hezbollah have are children toys compared to the technological might of the IDF and the damage the latter have inflicted on Israeli civilians has a ratio of 100:1 to the carnage and mayhem created in Lebanon by the Middle East's 'only democratic State'!!
(2) However, the loss of civilians is to be regretted and attack on civilians has to be opposed and yes, I, personally, and I am sure the comrades and friends of the iawm, would take part in any honest and non-manipulative picket organised by the Israeli Embassy or the Jewish community to commemorate its dead.
(3) Finally, to test the veracity of what I am saying, move your words into action and organise such an event...we have responded to the call of the Lebanese community above, I am sure we'll make sure we respond to any other relevant call. As the ancient Greeks used to say: "Here is Rhodes, take the jump and show us what you're made of"
