I see Mayo CC is on the ball where Shell is concerned. What a pity it doesn't address
its other responsibilities with such enthusiasm

An application before Castlebar Circuit Court to evict the Rossport Solidarity camp in north Mayo has been adjourned until next Tuesday.
The camp, situated close to the landfall and original onshore route of the Corrib gas pipeline, was established two years ago, shortly before the Rossport five were jailed.
Mayo County Council applied to Castlebar Circuit Court today
under Section 160 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 to cease what it terms the “unauthorized use and development” of the land.
Niall Harnett and Eoin O’Leidhon, representing the camp, told the court there is “no threat of imminent and/or further damage”.
Judge Harvey Kenny adjourned the case until next Tuesday to allow the camp’s representatives seek legal advice.
An interim injunction restraining camping and habitation of the land was obtained by Garvey, Smith and Flanagan Solicitors, acting on behalf of Mayo County Council, at Castlebar District Court on Friday and was issued to residents of the camp later that evening by two officials from Mayo County Council.
At court today, Mayo County Council undertook to not interfere with the camp until the case resumes.
In a letter delivered to the camp on Friday night, Leslie McNicholas, an engineer in Mayo County Council’s Planning Enforcement Unit, states that the camp is “likely to cause irreparable damage to the sand dunes and adjoining landscape”.
A camp spokesman said that the ethos of he and his fellow campaigners is to “minimize environmental impact”.
"If the pipeline were to run across this area, it would destroy it, so I think anyone concerned should be looking to Shell and not to us," he said.

Just found an interesting page on discussion about Shell on politics.ie
http://www.politics.ie/tags.php?tag=shell
There seems to be continuous long term comment about it (including about this article), which goes to show that its a big issue.

The bias of MCC towards Shell is well established - just look at the ducking, weaving and
outright lies about the water test results.
Nobody should be surprised at these latest acts by people who have sold out their county.
