A month after the arrival of Scotland's Hate Crime Act and it appears reports of the demise of the Scottish Enlightenment may have been premature, no thanks to the SNP but due to the doughty spirit of the Scots.

Should governments be able to censor online content for the entire world? That's what Australia is claiming the right to do. But do they really think China and Russia should be able to choose what the world sees?

Major Riots in Rostock, Germany - G8

150 cops injured.

In the run-up to the G8 Summit next week, tens of thousands of anti-G8 protesters, with several thousands on the Black Bloc alone, took part in the international demonstration in Rostock on 2 June, 2007. With colourful banners and puppets, protesters of different backgrounds tried to draw attention to the bigger problem of capitalism and the 'empire'. Police was very aggressive and provocative, using batons, water cannons and tear gas, not only against the 'bad protestors' but 'normal' ones as well. Violent confrontations were taking place while, on stage, the concert and speeches were trying to continue. Over 100 people were arrested and many injured on both sides.

The UK Independent's Tony Paterson wrote in today's paper:

"Protest organisers said at least 520 demonstrators had been injured in the clashes that begtan late in the afternoon after one masked youth jumped on to a stage at a closing rally and told the crowd 'We have to bring war into this demonstration - we'll achieve nothing through peaceful means.' Running battles between some 2,000 black clad protesters wearing ski-balaclavas to conceal their identities and 5,000 baton-wielding riot police using tear gas and water cannon ensued...Police and organisers of the peaceful anti G-8 protest said Germany's so-called 'Autonomen' - a radical group of anarchist protesters whose members wear back clothers and masks - had instigated the violence."

Through the burning of cars, smashing of windows and hurling of large paving stones at cops heads, we will create a world free of violence and oppression where all can live without fear of tyranny or aggression. Smash the G8! Burn down all symbols of capitalist slavery! One day the fight will bring us the freedom we want.

etc.

So the situation at present as I sit in the convergence centre is that several large demonstrations have taken place in Rostock and elsewhere and the police presence has been heaavy and aggressive.
As it stands the build up to the blockades is well underway with many in the 4 camps forming affinity groups and strategis to shut down the summit.
Not sure what the corporate media are saying, but the violence yesterday was started by aspecific unit of police (there are many many types, all with differnet appraoches it seems) who were over-zealous in their treatment of the fluffier of the two marches in Rostock yesterday, tear gassing it and pepper spraying hundreds of peaceful protesters.
When militants and anarchists from the large AntiFa and anarchist blocks attempted to get through to the other march to show solidarity with those attacked and injured´,the police used similar violent tactics on them, and they defended themselves as the pictures show.
That is what happened.
Today, there have been many inexplicable arrests of people at the peaceful agriculture march, many of those arrested for having "aggressive t-shirts".
Im not kidding,The level of provocation from the state is mind-boggling and will only increase as the days go by it seems.
Now we move to the Reidillech camp,a 6,000 strong area closer to the summit venue from where most of the direct actions will launch.
Solidarity!
