The BBC obviously leans heavily Left, says one former staff member, writing anonymously in the Daily Sceptic. But to the people who work there, their right-on views are just the 'normal' and 'objective' way to think.

Women are being told it's "uncool" and "Republican" to have a boyfriend, with some even cropping out their partners' heads on holiday snaps. This is not going to help the birth rate or women's happiness, says Joanna Gray.

Photos of Seomra Spraoi's last weekend at Ormond Quay

category dublin | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday May 29, 2007 11:47author by Social Gaff - Seomra Spraoiauthor email seomraspraoi at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Hundreds pass through during three-day farewell

The weekend just passed was the final one at Lower Ormond Quay for the Seomra Spraoi social centre. Farewell events included an acoustic gig on Friday evening, a children's craft day on Saturday and a party on Saturday night. Sunday saw the usual People's Kitchen cafe, with a big turnout, followed by a film screening.

Seomra Spraoi has to move out, as the owner of the building is selling up. However, the mood at the weekend was one of pride, admiration and elation, as people reflected on how far the project has come.

Hopefully Seomra Spraoi will reopen in a new space soon. Keep an eye on Indymedia or on the blog:

The Ormond Quay space is still being used for evening meetings this week. Also, people are packing up and clearing the place out. You can help by dropping in anytime between lunchtime and late evening, Tuesday to Thursday, 6 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1.

You can also help the Seomra Spraoi project by filling out a standing order form (posted below). The rent is likely to be bigger at the next place.

is a small party a worthy newswire item photos or no photos? If I take photos in my gaff the next time I've a bunch of lefties over, can I stick them up on indy? Bit self-indulgent I would have thought.

There'is no category for photo report, so sometimes 'News Report' is the only real option. I was at Soemra Spraio over the week-end, It wasnt a small party, There was lots of events and lots of people at them. I think a fair few Indymedia readers are interested in a social centre like this having to close down. I think about 8 campain groups have been using the place for meetings and other stuff over the last year.
