Colm O Gorman PD appointed to senate

Does this signal a seriousness in tackling child abuse?

The PD candidate will not now stand for general election.
He did a good job on Ferns and in exposing the Vatican connection to sex abuse 'hiding'.

Mr Mc Dowell has congragulated him.

The problems remain.

1. One in four abused.
2. Dept of education non-coperation with Laffoy commission.
3.The Church state indemnity deal.
4. The refusal to give our kids their human rights in both UN and EU law.
5. Michael Woods.

The legacy of denial.
The charging of abuse victims full legal fees to be represented at redress.

But- it is nice to hear that the man who found the priests in Vatican city and exposed
the threatened excommunications by the Vatican if a victim told, is a start.

Recognise the past or it will be endlessly repeated.

It also means a PD has been taken of the election slate , reducing Dail Power
for the 1%-3% party. and that we are beginning to deal with the issues that have caused
so much hurt to so many people, who do not have a voice or a political
party position.

Now it would be tremendous for victims to see a full debate on Irelands horrible
legacy which has been based in primitivism, fear and scandal being addressed,
wouldn't it?

"It is most interesting that Colm's organisation is run almost exclusivly on proceeds of the Catholic Church. A cosy relationship."

Colm O'Gorman chose to use his personal injury settlement to fund a support group. The decades spent obtaining that award, for the injuries inflicted on him as an individual, were bitterly contested by the church. There is nothing cosy in their relationship, the money is not the church's and he is he neither "funded by the church" nor accountable to them for his use of his personal resources.

Can anyone please help me? I am confused ! Is Colm O'Gorman still a memebr of the PD's whilst being chairperson of Amnesty International (Irish Section) ?. If so, it means that he has an obvious dilemna: how does he speak as (1) AI Chairperson and (2) a member of a political party in government colluding with US military presence in Ireland under the re-fuelling at Shannon Airport? If he has left the PD's, perhaps he could let us know when he left and how did he see his role as a PD memebr and thereby a supporter of US forces in Shannon..or did I miss the whole Damascus experience???

Mc Dowell says he would have to seriously consider going into power with
FF after revelations (more) of Berites finances, am awaiting announcement from the
other half of the marriage as to the shite that passed as law on June 2nd and 16th
of last year.

High Moral ground indeed, both divorcees are airing their long term laundry in public.

This is a nasty little campaign and Rabbitte and Enda have extended the Mullingar
accord to a full alliance, which means the pre-nup is signed.

another Marriage a la mode- can't wait.

It was logical for Mr. McDowell to congratulate Colm O'Gorman on his elevation to the Senate.

It was, of course, the PD leader who landed this plum for the Wexford PD candidate. Indeed, having proven such a flop in the business end of Wexford electoral politics, Mr. McDowell's soulmate had put his leader's reputation in some jeopardy.

Now, as PD Spokesperson on Education, Senator O'Gorman has a stake in the Redress Board, which is administered by the Department of Education. We look forward to hearing him extol its record of probity and compassion...... clarity and efficiency.

In fact, he could begin by discussing a recent High Court award to a survivor from the gulag that was MANY times in excess of the average payment forthcoming from his Redress Board.

Anybody who thought that O'Gorman was motivated to help others was duped. O'Gorman showed his true colours when he joined the "greed is good" merchants in the PD's. Once again the Seanad is shown for what it is-a joke, a rest room for friends of the establishment. Some campaigner!!!

Will no-one rid me of Mr. Gloom'n Doom?

You hit it on the nail with that one sentence about 2/3s through your piece.

"It also means a PD has been taken of the election slate..."

Bertie does not reward people for their good work, he rewards them for their usefulness to his strategies. In this case, probably trying to convince O'Gorman that he's taking the issue seriously, and also playing to the uncertainty of running for the Dail, and maybe not getting access to power, and the certainty of a Senate appointment.
