Green Building Courses

category dublin | housing | event notice author Thursday March 22, 2007 18:10author by Erik van Lennep - Cultivate Centre for Sustainable LIving and Learning Report this post to the editors

Leading from the ground-upwards

With the government missing the boat being pushed out by the rest of the world rallying to stave off climate change, home owners, builders and prospective buyers are leading the way in carbon reduction. The market follows close behind. Two new courses on Green Building will help sort through the options of saving energy, reducing our carbon footprints, and plugging the leaks. Don't wait for government to lead the way. The future is here now.

Irish residents take on Climate Change and Energy Security.... One Home at a Time

Sometimes leadership comes from the bottom up. In the case of Ireland's response to the twin challenges of oil depletion and climate change, the impetus may be coming from the wallet or from a broader concern over the effects of our nation's relatively large carbon footprint. Either way, this particular response is being led by individual home owners, builders and prospective home buyers. And the market is following closely behind, providing a wealth of energy saving, lower carbon solutions which have recently found a warm reception here in Ireland. Buildings consume 40% of the world’s energy every year and generate almost half of the carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming. Cultivate Centre, Temple Bar continues its focus on Climate Change and Energy with the following courses.

This course uses Patrick's popular book 'The Energy Efficient Home' as the core reading. By the end of this series participants will have the confidence and knowledge to make the big decisions in managing a new build or renovation.
Based in Northern Ireland, Dr Patrick Waterfield is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Energy Institute. He is the author of 14 conference and journal papers and numerous periodical/magazine articles. His first book, "The Energy Efficient Home" is currently one of the best sellers in Cultivate's shop.
