Christmas at the Canal

category dublin | rights and freedoms | news report author Monday December 25, 2006 16:53author by Paula Geraghty Report this post to the editors

The events calendar looked a bit bare, save this event, for Christmas day.

cabhair01.jpg

As I don't live to far away, it was a mere hop skip and a jump down the canal to Inchicore for an annual swim organised by Republicans to raise funds for the family and dependants of Irish Republican prisoners.

I was was stopped by one of the four Special Branch Personnel and asked for my name, address and telephone number, under section 30 of Offenses Against the State. It was over the top, but the foggy damp coolness was warmed by the bonfire. There was enough Tayto crisps, mince pies and beers floating around conducive to a festive celebration.

Hi Paula !

Sorry I missed you today - I have more or less confined myself to bed for the past few days as I am suffering from some 'bug' or other . Damn thing picked the worst possible time to lay me low !

Fantastic photographs , Paula , and thank you for posting them so quickly .
Our 'Junior' , who considers himself to have an 'eye' for good photographs , said that you should seriously consider entering the last photo - the one featuring the swan - in a photographic competition : he has declared it to be a winner - excellent composition , sharp focus on the subject and well framed .
And I think he is right !

Thank You again , Paula , for a job well done !

Sharon .

Even though I don't sympathise with "the cause" I think they're great photos. Hope the lads had a few tots of poitin after drying themselves. None offered to the branchmen of course. Let em freeze.

Agus níor tugadh braon poitín do lucht an Bhrainse?

Nach spionlaitheach sibh? Drongairí drugaí ar fud na tíre ag marú a chéile agus sibhse, le bhur dtionlacan slándála fhéin agaibh: míbhuíoch, is léir.

Mo náire sibh ;-)
