Giving Ireland back her Oil and Gas

category national | environment | press release author Saturday December 02, 2006 20:03author by Martin Hogan - NUI Senate Candidate Report this post to the editors

Renegotiating the oil and gas "deal" for the benefit of Ireland

Green Party calls for renegotiation of our oil and gas "deal".

While other political parties dither and avoid dealing with the unimaginably stupid current situation of having given away and continuing to give away all our offshore oil and gas reserves, the following is offical Green Party policy on the matter:

The Green Party calls for the 1992 terms governing oil and gas exploration in the waters of the Republic of Ireland to be redrafted to give the State more security of hydrocarbon supply and a revenue/royalty percentage from such finds. Further, the party calls for the terms of those deals made since 1992 to be renegotiated for the benefit of the Irish people based on a cost/benefit analysis on the value to the economy.

What oil/Gas have we given away? My understanding is that the state has given the oil companies a chance to extract irelands oil/gas. This has and will enable us to be less dependent on foreign countries for our energy needs. Look at Russia increasing the price of gas they charge to Georgia. Does the Green party want us to be the whipping boy of europe?
