Save Tara awareness protest in Navan

category meath | history and heritage | event notice author Monday October 02, 2006 22:40author by Taramarch Report this post to the editors

SATURDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2006 at 3 p.m.

A demonstration against the proposed M3 motorway route through the
national monument of the Tara Skryne Valley is to be held in Navan on
Saturday, 4th November, starting at 3pm.
The leaders of the March
The leaders of the March

The Save Tara Skryne Valley Campaign are calling on all individuals
and groups who wish to express their concerns about the imminent
destruction of the valley by the proposed construction of the M3, to
join them on this Save Tara Valley Awareness March.
The purpose of the March is to create an opportunity for people to
voice their objection to the Government, particularly Dick Roche,
Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government at the bad
planning, corruption, toll roads, public-private partnerships,
overspending on motorways, lack of investment in public transport as
well as the widespread rapid destruction of Irish Heritage being
funded by Irish Taxpayers money.
Groups and individuals from all parts of ireland have already pledged
their support, as have members of the Opposition Parties.

SAVE TARA SKRYNE VALLEY CAMPAIGN

www.savetaravalley.com

We sincerely hope that all those people who have been campaigning in
their many ways over the last few years will join with us on the March
in an act of unity to demonstrate our defiance to the Irish Government
and to broaden awareness of the reality of the situation.

We are asking anyone who cares about this issue to make time to attend
The Save Tara Valley Awareness March as we will need THOUSANDS and not hundreds to make any political impact at this stage. To this end
we will be publicising the March throughout ireland and need everyone
to help us to do this effectively.
We hope that each group will organise their own contribution to the
March and are therefore giving everyone as much notice as possible to
prepare. Several well known politicians have already pledged their
support and attendance and we will be publicising this information as
we get nearer to the date. If you know of anyone who wishes to speak
on the day, please let us know as soon as possible.
We will be holding a meeting for all those wishing to take an active
part in assisting in the organisation of the March on Thursday 12^th
October at The Newgrange Hotel, Navan at 8.30pm.
Please spread the news as fast and far as possible. We will use our
website to keep everyone informed of our progress. Posters and
leaflets are being prepared at the moment and you will be able to
download them approximately three- four weeks before the March.

Well now, a rival event. What a relief - maybe he'll stay away from the March.
This thread is about the March - people of Meath it's safe to to protest. The controller will be controlling a lecture instead.
Can this thread get back to what its about please?

For those of you who can't make the march on Sat 4th in Navan, there will a Tara lecture in Dublin on that day.

TaraWatch is pleased to announce that the Tara Lecture Series at the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland (RSAI) will commence on Saturday 28th October and continue up until Christmas, and perhaps into the New year.

The proceeding of the lecture series will be collected into a volume, which will be edited by the Irish Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Dr. Paul Muldoon, of Priceton University.

Lectures will be held in the Helen Roe Lecture Theatre of RSAI, 63 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 at 12.00pm. Admission is free.

Here are the first three lecturers:

28th October - Mr Charles Doherty, School of Early Irish History, University College Dublin. "Christianity and Kingship: Tara"

4th November - Dr Joseph Flavin, Dept. of Old and Modern Irish, University College Cork.

11th November - Dr. Tadh O hAnnrachain, School of History and Archives, University College Dublin. "Tara and the rebellion of 1641"

Other lectures and topics will be announced shortly.

The more things change the more they stay the same - no change except in the time and that was announced a week ago. Ireland is not Australia, its a very small space and people are used to minor changes, they can adjust.
I want to emphasise again - I am posting with the permission of, and on the instructions of, the organisers.
The start point is now decided - they had to wait for the gardai to give permission, Navan is not a big town and this could disrupt the traffic and people enormously if it is a big march as I hope it will be.

hey - nice one with the swipe at an entire nation. sometimes, we call that racism.

how come all white australians change the times of their race riots by text message all the time, so close to when they're happening? it makes it so much harder when you're on your way to cronulla.

you're not making any friends on this site with your postings if you're coming over here.

Why do the Irish keep changing constantly the dates, times and places of activist events?

This is making it very difficult for people to make plans to attend.
