Residents Against Racism protest at GNIB

category dublin | racism & migration related issues | event notice author Monday September 18, 2006 13:21author by Residents Against Racism Report this post to the editors

RAR are holding a protest outside the GNIB on Wednesday 20th of September at 2 o'clock.

RAR are holding a protest outside the GNIB on Wednesday 20th of September at 2 o'clock. Every one welcome. GNIB is located directly across the Liffey from Liberty Hall. Looks extremely likely that there will be a deportation this week. People are often taken directly from the GNIB offices to the airport to be deported, when they show up to sign on.

2 women awaiting judicial review are to be deported to Nigeria today . They have already been taken into the holding room up stairs within the GNIB this deportation is illegal as these people are still in the legal process waiting for Michael Mc Dowell to contact them in relation to their cases .

This is a obvious example of the racist system we live under . People are needed to show their support by coming to the GNIB for 2pm today . The GNIB is the Garda National Immigration Bureau and is located on 13/14 Burgh Quay , Dublin 2.

this deportation is illegal

Can you prove that allegation or is just just another over the top statement from RAR?

If they are in the legal process should you not alert their legal representative?

this article makes zero sense

It wasn't RAR who posted that. I have been informed that the legal representatives, apart from one, have been contacted and are working on it as we speak.

Surely it would be more cost effect to deport more that 2 at a time, oh and make them pay.

One of the woman who was being illegally prepared for deportation has been released after her solicitor went to the GNIB. The other lawyers are currently working on the other cases.

Of course they have the right to seek legal aid but if they're found to be here illegally, then they should be sent back.

author by RARpublication date Wed Sep 20, 2006 17:38author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The right to seek legal aid is a smokescreen. Judicial reviews cost in the region of €5000 euro's which means that only those with financial clout gets to get one. There are a lot more people on this deportation who, if they had the money, would have been able to secure Judicial Review's.

I believe we still live in a democracy and that the rule of law must prevail.
Yet it seems that the tiny splinter group associated with RAR are opposed to any such democratic principles.

They seem determined to transform our asylum system into a ploy for open door immigration; the attendant costs of which are being met by Irish tax payers.

The principle of the political asylum system must be upheld and protected for those genuinely fleeing persecution and that means weeding out and excluding those (who after due process) are found not to meet such criteria. Neither should the disgusting trade of human traffickers be unintentionally supported.

Miriam, what splinter group?
As for human trafficking McDowell has continually refused to publish any legislation in this field despite repeated requests and calls from groups like RAR after several years. We also have a situation in that anytime somebody has gone to the gardai after being trafficked in for the sex trade they end up getting deported and nobody is charged in relation to the trafficking or the enslavement of these people. Our government and justice system doesn't care about any of these people or issues. They are institutionally racist and far prefer to foster a situation where attention and blame are deflected onto asylum seekers rather than on their policies and what they are actually doing.
