A Left Wing Alternative to Lula's Neoliberal Policies

Helena Heloisa, a Senator in Brazil, is running for President next October against the current office-holder, the "Tropical Blairist" Lula.

A number of internationally known activists, including Noam Chomsky, have signed an online petition endorsing Heloisa, who is the candidate of a left wing coalition including her own party, the PSOL.

Irish supporters include the TD's Tony Gregory and Finian McGrath, and Dublin City Councillors Joan Collins and Mick Rafferty.

Was it really Noam? How can you tell with an online petition. Did Finian and Joan sign the online petution or did you contact them? Someone could post as Bertie. Hmmm, thats an idea.

"83. Bertie Ahern Fianna Fail "

There Bertie is now a supporter of the campaign. These online petitions are useless. You cannot trust them. I hope John and his variant of the Fourth International learns somethging from this.

The CWI are supporting P-SOL in the election against sell-out Lula. So you could add their TD (J. Higgins) and 4 Cllrs (M.Barry, R. Coppinger, C. Daly, M. Murphy) to list of supporters.

Helena Heloisa came third in the first round of Brazil's Presidential Election on October 1 - she got 6.85% of valid votes (6.575 million votes).

See link below for an assessment of a campaign the authors argue "was marked by a high level of apathy" :
