Thirty Left-wing MPs have written to Ofcom to press it to censor X under the Online Safety Act. The evidence of 'hate' on the platform is threadbare, but it's obvious why they want to clip its wings, says Laurie Wastell.

Jump To Comment: 6 5 4 3 2 1I think that Mags is correct, we have to keep on the alert. The "mother and child" bunch aka "youth defence" were handing out a glossy leaflet in Limerick on Saturday.
As I said before, we have got them on the run. Even in very conservative areas of the country, the no vote in the recent referendum approached 40%, while we must still remain alert, the outlook is positive. We are winning, the spucers are on the run.
Firewoman is right, I think it is mainly the evancelical stuff. In America though the main anti-abortion groups are protestants too.
Re: the first reply, I know the public is mainly on our side and we won in the referendum.
However these fundamentalists never go away and they have the ear of government - that is why we had a referendum in the first place. There are three developments we should watch though.
1) There are attempts going on to heal the splits of the referendum. There was a big 'Day for Pro-Life Unity' in Knock two weeks back with most of the groups reperesented. They know they will have to hang together or hang separately.
2) The 'Family and Life' gang are running a big campaign to get their anti-sex education stuff into schools.
3) There are moves in Britain to provide more abortions on a non-surgical basis, i.e. drugs such as RU486, etc. Shorter hospital vists, etc. would benefit Irish women of course. I can see the anti-choicers mobilising against this.
Anyway, my point is it does not pay to take your eyes off them for long. They are zealots and will adopt other related causes for a while. They will be back to the big 'A' at some point.
Why do the UK anti-abortion people have a load of past and present orangemen and links with loyalist organisations? I realise that it is because of their evangelism, but wouldn't you think that the greatest allies anti-abortion people have is the catholic church. As far as I know most British protestants are pro-abortion. talk about alienating your support.
Don't panic Sister, we are getting stronger all the time while they have had their day.
