& now its Ecological War. Israel causes Oil Slick in Lebanon.

category international | environment | news report author Friday July 28, 2006 19:30author by iosaf Report this post to the editors

The Israeli airforce as we must know by now, in their fight against an estimated 18,000 strong terrorist organisation have destroyed 80% of the infrastructure of a nation-state of less than 4 million people.

They've now topped it off by bombing Southern Lebanon's Jiyeh power plant. A plant which had 6 fuel tanks, 4 of them have now burnt - Lebanon is appealing for foam - 1 is still is burning - and 15,000 tonnes of oil have poured onto more than 90 kilometres of the Lebanese coast from Jiyyeh to Shekka, north of the capital, including Beirut's only sandy public beach of Ramlet al-Baida,the coast.

To put this in perspective the Prestige Oil Tanker polluted Galicia in Spain by sinking off coast with 30,000 tonnes of oil. At risk is not only the wildlife of the eastern Mediterranean sea, and ironically the fish and birds of northern Israel as well as all of Lebanon - but also the comparatively rare "green back turtle". Its so rare they sell T-shirts of it and do their best to keep it off the extinction list...,

The slick has extended as far north as the Syrian port of Tartus.

"A black slick spread over six miles appeared yesterday (Wednesday) on the Syrian coast," said Hassan Murjan, environment official for the southern port of Tartus. "It's diesel from the electric power station or the boat that were attacked in Lebanon," he said, adding that tests were being done to determine where the oil came from."

For indeed quite a few boats have been sunk as well...

Due to the rocky nature of the coast of the eastern Mediterranean between Haifa and Syria, when the soldiers have stopped fighting - & the refugees go home - it will have to be cleaned by hand.

Which terrorist organisation are you talking about?

author by cool jpublication date Fri Jul 28, 2006 22:36author address author phone Report this post to the editors

When Saddam Hussein did something similar it was rightly highlighted all over the world. You can be sure the Anglo-American press in this part of the world will keep another dirty little secret of Israels indiscreminate campaign to wipe out Lebenonese independence hidden from view.

The damage done to marine life of all types could be catastrophic given that this part of the Med is the most biologically diverse!

I do regard Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation, in that it promotes terrorist acts to achieve its goals - but it is also a democratic political party, Hzb defies most western style definitions. We have never seen such organisations in Europe or for the matter north America. Hzb is not the IRA, ETA, FARC or even (& here we push the envelope of westerners' understanding ) Al Qaeda. Its not even directly comparable with Egyptian islamists groups in the Sinai. Its only "close relation" is Hamas & even then the comparison soon becomes flimsy.

why?
Because Hzb is a popular movement which has provided health and educational services to its followers and others in the same community, it is undeniably a fundementalist Shia Islamist movement which apart from ensuring a consistent theological line in its mosques has also worked with an extensive migrant support and solidarity network throughout the world (hence the Israeli propaganda earlier this week that Hzb sleepers were now activated globally).
Equally factually it has a highly trained and well equiped military force which relies on and is arguably guided by the foreign policy of 2 states.

At lowest estimate Hzb has arounda thousand members of its armed wing.
At highest quoted estimate since July 12th it counts on possibly 18,000 members.
In the democratic, legitimate and observed elections for Lebanon it counted more than a quarter million votes.

so Hzb is many things. But one thing it is not is the nation state of Lebanon. Hzb is not a sovreign entity protected by international law or conventions such as the Geneva, Vienna and Berne. But that doesn't stop it having telly and colour road side advertising in three languages or its own T-shirts.
& its status as a "militarised movement" is the crunch of Western "doublethink" and resolution 1559.

I will go into these issues very soon in their own article exploring the political limits of Israel's proposed mission to "destroy, degrade and render HZb finished".

For the moment I just want Irish and other readers to know about the Ecodisaster which Israel has caused during its illegal war on Lebanon, the Lebanese people, their economy, their viable future and now their environment.

It's "Ins-allah" twit, Now "Imshe"

author by blaisepublication date Sat Jul 29, 2006 06:48author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Ali - the poor guy was only spelling it the way he's heard it - and doesn't deserve the injustice of you calling him a twit - it's just a little bit of Irish throw in - the 'inch' part - don't be so sensitive. There are much more important issues to talk about. Israel has a history of invading Lebanon and besides in recent times they became highly jealous of the resurgency which had taken place there and they wanted to flatten it. We are heading for another Iraq scenario. Look what the U.S. has done in Iraq - taken a viable country and bombed it back to the dark ages and and leaving it soon filled with strife and hatred - decimated and torn by civil war. Divide and conquer - a British thing - and that lapdog Blair is front and centre behind all this in Lebannon.

The dumbing down of American is fully realized now. More than 60 per cent of Americans believe Saddam and Al Quaida are a direct link and that Saddam had WMD's - both notions which have been disproved. Israel and the U.S. go on and on about the War on Terror as their only way to win hearts and minds of their dumb populations. Syria will be attacked at some point - not Iran - and the latter will develop a nuclear arsenal. The United States is basically forcing them to - backing them into a corner. Iran's only defence would be the fear factor of unleashing a big one. That could end up a statemate - but a Syrian attack is quite believable. That's another historically beautiful country which they would love to destroy.

The ecological disaster from the Israeli attack is just the beginning of the decimation of Lebannon. I heard the green light for bombing has a window of about 3 more weeks or perhaps less - which is immaterial because if they are given less time to bomb they will be more ferocious in their execution. The Lebanese are a resilient people, diverse as they are - and they will come back but never the same - I suspect. You can kill of people but movements are more difficult to kill off.

Why are Sadamm and Milosovic on trial? Their crimes, as heinous as they were are none different than the crimes of the Israeli army generals - eg Sharon and his predecessors.

I'm talking to you from over here in Canada. The wife of UN observer who was part of the four which were inside the observatory flattened by the Israeli army for 7 hours the other day called on the Canadian government to do something about Israel. God love her and her family still hold out hope that he is still alive but she called the Israel government basically murderers who bombed the UN post on purpose. Harper, the Prime Minister, who is right next to Blair in the other back pocket of Bush's, said he would wait for the Israeli investigation of the matter. Imagine asking a murderer to solve his own case for you?. This is incredible. You have the United States offering humanitarian aid on the one hand while funding the Israeli regime, propping them up, and sending them huge bombs to inflict more devastation.

The major of Montreal recently attended an Israeli rally and said he couldn't attend the Lebanese one because Pope Benedict wanted him to say a special mass on the Sunday the Lebanese rally took place. There is so much pressure exerted on politicians in the United States and Canada by the Jews - balance is very difficult and the news media reflect that. CNN calls Hizbullah the enemy. The joke is that they call themselves a news medium. They are cheerleaders for the destruction of Arab/Muslim property and lives - it's that simple. The whole thing is quite sickening. If you go against the Jews over here they call you anti-Semitic - so basically there is very little exchange of ideas.

I hear a lot of left leaving Irish condemning the media slant in Ireland towards Israel - but I don't see it. In fact, I believe the lean is towards the Lebanese position and definitely anti-American, anti-Israel - which I must applaud. I am certainly not for terror but I see the United States and Israel as terrorists and I see little terrorists reacting to them - terror begets terror.

The jews in israel have declared unacceptable the presence of german soldiers in Lebanon as part of any buffer/U.N./peacekeeping force.
I wonder why? After all 65 years have passed since Hitlers generals perfected the art of Blitzkrieg.
They german army would benefit from the current refresher course,in Lebanon,
even if Hitler would not be too happy to note the nationality of the new instructors..!

I am writing from the UK. The man/women in the street fears for the situation and we worry about 'where this will go' when will the slaughter stop? How can our Government behave like it is? I feel re-assured that our public can see through the spin and are very angry about our 'politics' I feel ashamed about 'our behaviour' your comments tell it like it is and are being echoed over here. We may not be able to engage with our leader showing the failing of our 'democracy' but we are still shouting when ever we can and at some point we will be heard. We do care and will continue informing everyone who wants to listen, and there are plenty who do.
