New CD Compilation seeks TO WAKE, STIR and UNITE POLITICAL & SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS
Wanted for New CD compilation:
New Songs of Politics and Spirit for the 21st Century….Ireland & The World...
"The Way It Is Today"
If you feel you have a song that people should hear, that is relevant to social, political and spiritual life today; if you have been looking for an opportunity to get your material out to a wide audience; if you feel you can raise and elevate public consciousness through your creative work…..MAYBE WE NEED TO TALK!!!!
We are looking for new songs about war, peace, politics, society, & spirit in Ireland & the World for a new CD compilation that we plan to release called “The Way It Is Today”(working title).
3 years ago 100,000 people in Dublin, along with millions across the globe marched in public to express their opposition to the proposed invasion of Iraq. The wishes of these people were ignored, yet the people, their energies and their creativity are still alive and at work in the world.
Songs have always been are great way of uniting people.
While playing a few of our own songs the other evening, it dawned on us that a compilation of new contemporary songs with a social and spiritual purpose would be a good way to reflect and affirm this culture of intelligence, creativity and justice…..
Both of us are contributing a song each. Once we feel we have a strong enough selection of material, we will then go ahead and organise recording and releasing the compilation.
No fee will be paid but the proceeds from sales of the compilation will be divided up EQULLY between all the contributors after production costs have been covered. All copyrights will remain with the contributors.
All genres, all styles welcome. No censorship allowed.
Formats accepted:
-Fully recorded songs
-demo recorded songs on minidisk, cd or tape!
-words of songs

To get the ball rolling, I offer the words of a song i wrote some time ago about Palestine, which I will be recording for this compilation:
Palestine
(to the air of the traditional song ‘Skibereen’)
Oh brothers dear, I often hear you sing of Ireland’s plight
Long victims of colonial rule, of Britannia’s empire’s might
But you have shaken off those chains, you are not slaves no more
That’s why I’ve come to seek refuge on the freedom of your shore.
My father was a Moslem, my mother Christian true
I was born in occupation, in Israeli army rule
We were the children of the stones, that how we fought their tanks
In the battles of our ‘intifada’, schooling it was scant.
I was only twelve years old when I had to flee my town
An ancient spot called Bethlehem, a place of some renown
My family died in tragedy and I was left alone
But a Christian woman took me off and reared me as her own.
I spent 3 years in Lebanon, but there I could not be
Then 5 years more in Syria, it's a place where no man’s free
They’ll throw you in to prison there cause justice there is blind
So I jumped a ship at Waterford, my freedom for to find.
I was cold alone and hungry when in Dublin I arrived
In hope to find employment and to make another life
I chanced to meet an Irishman who showed me sympathy
He told me I could make a claim to be a refugee.
Now I’m living in Cork city it’s a place I like right fine
They’ve said my claim is bogus, so I’m working on the sly
False name, false cards and papers and a false identity
How many Irish emigrants were just the same as me.
Now times are good in Ireland, there is peace and there is wealth
Yet today in other countries people feel as you once felt
So I hope you will remember us and defend our liberty
The whole world over people have the same wish to be free.
Now I often think of Palestine it’s fruit trees and sunshine
I hope some day I can return to peace and better times
For people there have suffered long the colonisers hand
May jew and arab one day live at peace in one free land.
