Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6* Valencia suffered the worst metro (underground rail) disaster in Spanish history on July 3rd. It occured between placa espanya and placa jesus on the Metro line 1.
Everyone was united in mourning, and balconies which had previously been unadorned displayed the black ribbon. This was noteworthy, most balconies were flying flags of the World Cup for "best professional football team" (a roman invention) or flags of the pope or his millenial opponents.
The trains of the traditonally conservative regional government of Valencia carried black boxes but had not been supplied with speed impediment technology. 42 people died, mostly at the site of the accident. It was a reminder to all cities & regional governments of the higher social infrastructure development index to review safety & security arrangements on public transport
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencia_subway_accident It was not the first time those of "Spanish culture" united in grief & common respect for human life because of a public transport incident.

+ italy won the world cup.:.
the 11th and current president of Italy is a former PCI communist who was excommunicated by Pius XI to throw the 1948 election. But he knew he was excommunicated, & it had a certain value in his hermeneutic phenomonology..
Berlusconi didn't & never really got the unsubstantiated hostias together & didn't know how much of a bad fucker he really was.

for all states of higher state public service or privately owned transport infrastructure the ribbon meant something.
iosaf
i really hope you were not serious describing the Ploughshares as 'pagan cult micro-minority group in Ireland are still haggling over possession of Tara' - perhaps you meant a different webaddress?

Redemption Song...
Twice outside the High Court, this week, I've heard this song played - passing motorists. I've remarked on it.
Then in this place, the highest of our courts - you quote it too.
1+1+1 = coincidence = possibility = the infinite
Almost musical: (though another thread has been dominated by the most undignified battle.
(to which the writer may be refferring.)
Relate it back to the original piece, not the supplemental and re-read it. Apparently I will never
be a student of mathemathics, but it looks pretty, (the proof).
Blood Ritual : Some old religions used haruspecy to divine and some used sacrifice including some pre-christian religions
the language of which is carried into roman catholic prayers and amongst other sources can be found in the Glenstal book of
prayer-
The Deplhic priestess probably used menstruation as oracle and pronounced once a month.
in fact Fraser's: Golden Bough would be ok re describing some of the rites, (blood an all) though he can be
jaundiced and seems easily shocked.
Another form of blood rite is the mass (RC) this involves transubstantiation , the changing of the
host to the body and the wine to the blood of christ. Other images are the insistence on the
Church that christ is the bridegroom and the church the bride (or did I invert that?)
anyway it was one of the main arguments aginst the role of women ministers, in that the Church would be
lesbianised!!!!!
Some religions left the dominant roman church for reasons such as these, (founded by Luther, Calvin etc)
and some never joined....
Blood Rite is possibly not a big part of pagan rites, though I am not really sure.
Cyclic menstruation and the problems of RC with birth, womb and generally blood related matters
would put a lot of women off. It is almost primal fear of something 50% of the world's population go
through and in some cultures and religions itis celebrated.
Re-read the main article and then the supplement-
Prize for this last week's really & critically astute reader goes to Miriam.
Miriam not to be fooled by prejudice or the difficult of downloading data from the EU parliament website, persisted with tenacity to expose a mendacious conceit in the "No Pope here!" article. She proved that no-one in Ireland including our regular contributors with degrees on European Politics really knows anything about our representation at Brussels or how to distinguish a phantom protest started from a site with more webhits than RTE enjoys in a week.
A papal baseball hat & rosary beads or sun cream and beach ball are in the post Miriam !!
* and a consolation prize for JD.
Quite right JD the Ploughshares aren't a ' pagan cult micro-minority group in Ireland " who are still haggling over possession of Tara, Lambay volcano & blood rituals." They just like right for that sort of thing. The Ploughshares are in court of course at the moment you can read about that on the features page which is generally more factually reliable than the newswire or commentators. http://indymedia.ie/article/77038
just coz it's got my name attached doesn't mean its gospel truth. I feel like referring ye to the "judas" edition. in which I incorrectly attributed the phrase "thundering bollocks and fucking disgrace'to Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh, 5th president of Ireland. Proving for a few days that no-one in Ireland knows anthing about aras an uachtaran either. http://indymedia.ie/article/75335
The first time we are introduced to pure mathematics as a concept & with a name happens in aerly adolesence - its called the square root of minus one and we assign it the symbol "i".
It wrecks peoples' heads. More people are put off mathematics & pure mathematics, its sister science of linguistics and philosophical analytic logic or its kith & kin jolly deep theological speculation (breath) by "i" than by "pi".
Pi is very popular amongst the young. That is simply one other reason why "euler's identity" is such a beautifully written proposition. Go to the top of the page & look @ (((it))) = 0
