event notice
Friday June 16, 2006 22:52 by Ógra B - Ógra Shinn Féin

Campa Náisiúnta Óige ’06 will be held this year at Sliabh Beagh Tourism Centre, Knockatallon, County Monaghan from Friday 23rd to Saturday 24th June.
This event is organised under the Processes of Nation Building Programme, which aims to create understanding and build relationships through dialogue and reflection with all those who have an interest in nation building across Ireland.
This year’s camp will have a Latin American flavour with Friday Evening dedicated to Che Guevara and events in Cuba. Saturday’s programme will take in the 25th anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike and Kieran Doherty’s election as T.D. for Cavan/Monaghan. It will also explore the issue of young people engaging in politics in 1981 and now.
Participants can also enjoy a programme of social and cultural activities including live music, sports and an historical tour of the area.
Youth activsists at National Youth Camp '06! Barry McColgan spokesperson for Ógra Shinn Féin said, “This is the 3rd in a series of very successful youth camps which have attracted a broad range of young people from across Ireland interested in nation building. The previous two camps were held on the Aran Islands and in Benburb, County Tyrone, each attracting up to a hundred young people, gathered to contribute to the debate, be educated and to have fun.”
“The youth camp gives the youth an opportunity to meet young people from across Ireland, sharing their different outlooks, presenting solutions to the challenges that currently face us in terms of unionist outreach, national reconciliation and nation building.”
“At last year’s camp Alex Kane from the Ulster Unionist party made a presentation, speaking on the 100-year history of Ulster Unionism, he outlined his view of the present impasse in the Peace Process and the difficulties faced. The young people listened intently before breaking up into workshops to discuss in more detail the contents of Alex's address. The workshops were followed by a question and answer session in which Alex gave forthright answers and the young people were just as forthright in their questioning.”
“This years youth camp should be just as interesting tracing the struggle in Cuba and remembering the Hungerstrike of ’81, and like last year the craic should be ninety with entertainment from upcoming traditional artist from Lurgan’s Barry Kerr. Places are limited and already 60 places are booked so don’t hesitate in sending you booking form (www.coiste.ie) – I’ll see you at the Youth Camp!”
