ARAN's Nude Demo Makes Headlines Again

Anti-Animal Act Circus Protest Tour

ARAN's nude demonstration has again made headlines in Northern Ireland with almost a dozen photographers coming along with a crew from UTV live television who covered our protest on today's national evening television which also showed a recent undercover investigation by Animal Defenders International. This attention is now ensuring everyone knows how cruel circuses with animals really are and never to support such acts.

Great initiative, but she's not actually nude as such, is she?

author by gurgglepublication date Thu Apr 20, 2006 16:41Report this post to the editors

not just the obvious fact that she isn't naked. Why couldn't a man have pretended to be shackled?
After all he could have got through ulster's decency regimen with just a thong, and leave his n-i-p-p-l-e-s open to gawk.

no animal was harmed during the writing of this comment. But during the time it took to write, children died of lack of water, food, vaccines, and an average of one Iraqi civilian could be thought to have been seriously wounded in a state which though welcomed to the community of democratic nations has less ambulances and functioning hospitals than during its brutal dictatorship.

Folly

That lady is not nude !

This is a protest built on lies

Some of the anti war protests (in other countries) used this same type of alternative protest with some success. I am sure the SWP and others would not approve, it would probally not be serious enough for them. Still it is no harm to try a new approach instead of the same old played out boring marches and demos etc that nobody takes any notice of anymore.

Hi
This is the "almost nude girl" I would like all of you to remember that this demo was not about me getting naked but to raise awareness of the suffering and mistreatment that animals endure in circuses. The nude part is an extra bonus for the media and I guess for some people that care more about my nipples than animals.

I think the problem and controversy is less about seeing your nipples than a sense of contempt that your protest was simply a cheap, half-hearted and uncommitted publicity campaign more for your own grandstanding purposes than for the cause you claim to represent. Presumably the nudity was intended to be an act of civil dissobedience, and not just cheap thrills for RedTop readers. If so, then your critics have a genuine reason for criticising your actions: backing out of the protest simply to avoid arrest by guards signals weak ambivalence rather than strong conviction.

I think there is a legitamate message in what your critics are hollering, Karolina: you should either shit or get off the pot!

I feel sorry for people like you; it is so easy to criticize. Would you have the courage to stand up for what you believe in or are u just one of those smart guys sitting on your couch and doing nothing?

author by BabyKpublication date Wed Jul 26, 2006 01:13Report this post to the editors

Mr T - why on earth would you think that Karolina was making a protest in a half hearted manner? She got publicity for her cause, I see no evidence that her 'own grandstanding purposes' were fulfilled in any way.

Do you disapprove of female nudity on the grounds that it may give people 'cheap thrills'? Whether or not anyone got 'cheap thrills', animal welfare was highlighted as an issue, which is what ARAN and Karolina wanted.

Karolina I think you did a great job and personally I think it was a good judgement to not go completely naked to avoid arrest, yuk imagine being manhandled by a lecherous guard...
