offsite link Trump is Not to Blame for Carney?s Win Thu May 01, 2025 09:00 | Dr James Allan
The media are wrong to pin the blame for the Canadian Conservatives' loss on Trump, says Prof James Allan. In truth, the Tories' vote was sky high ? but the Left-wing vote coalesced around Carney.

Kneecap's vocal support for Hamas and call for fans to murder Tory MPs is obviously reprehensible. But it's just for show, says Andrew Doyle. The police shouldn't waste their time investigating rappers.

Hundreds expected to attend protest march against incinerator in Dublin Bay

Hundreds of people from Ringsend, Sandymount, Irishtown and across Dublin are expected to attend the protest march taking place this Saturday against the planned incinerator for Dublin Bay.

The protest, organised by the Combined Residents Against Incineration (CRAI), is calling on the Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche to drop the plans to build an incinerator on the Poolbeg peninsula in Dublin Bay.

The protest starts at 12 noon on Saturday April 8th and meets at the Ringsend Technical Institute on Cambridge Rd, Ringsend where the meeting of the Dublin City Council consultation process is set to take place. CRAI calls on all those concerned with the environment and the erosion of democracy from across Dublin and beyond to attend and help keep Ireland incinerator free.

The protest is also demanding that political parties support a motion in the Dail which to prevent the siting of the incinerator in Dublin Bay.

Despite years of opposition to the proposed incinerator, it is still being included in plans for the area. A recent ‘Community Gain Initiative’ survey conducted on behalf of the city council, included a proposal to fund community projects through the profits of an incinerator.

The incinerator is being developed as a public private partnership between Dublin City Council and Eslam, a Danish company. Eslam will operate the plant for 20 years. The contract has already been signed with Eslam and that they will make massive profits from the incinerator. We are demanding that the environment, communities and people be prioritised over profit.

The protest is part of an on-going campaign by people of the area and across Dublin against this incinerator. We are using people power to pressure politicians to ensure that it will not go ahead.

More than 50% of all toxic and difficult waste currently being exported from Ireland for incineration and landfill abroad is generated within 15 miles of Dublin City Centre.

The current proposal is to ship this stuff by road to Cork for incineration in Ringaskiddy.

What are the proposals of the committee organizing this protest against an incinerator in Ringsend as to Dublin people taking responsibility for this waste?

Is it:
1. Stop creating it. Shut down the industries generating it ?(The workers can get min-wage jobs sorting bottles at the recycling-centre)
2. Keep shipping it to Wales and other 3rd world countries. (The "I'm all right, Jack" solution No 1)?
3. Ship it to Cork. The're culclies and their health isn't as important as ours? (the I'm all right, Jack solution No2)
4. Take responsibility for your own waste in your own community?
5. Well, actually, er...in the fullness of time....as technologies become available... we should set up a working party....better still, a committee....can't expect utopian solutions.... no panacea..... Not in Dublin's backyard, mate.

Answers please.
