James Connolly was co-opted onto the supreme council of the IRB prior to the rising . None of the leaders were in Sinn Fein .

Let us free Ireland! Never mind such base, carnal thoughts as concern work and wages, healthy homes, or lives unclouded by poverty.

Let us free Ireland! “The land that bred and bore us.” And the landlord who makes us pay for permission to live upon it. Whoop it up for liberty!

But the evicting party, under command of the sheriff, will wear green uniforms and the Harp without the Crown, and the warrant turning you out on the roadside will be stamped with the arms of the Irish Republic. Now, isn’t that worth fighting for?

And when you cannot find employment, and, giving up the struggle of life in despair, enter the poorhouse, the band of the nearest regiment of the Irish army will escort you to the poorhouse door to the tune of St. Patrick's Day. Oh! It will be nice to live in those days!

“With the Green Flag floating o’er us” and an ever-increasing army of unemployed workers walking about under the Green Flag, wishing they had something to eat. Same as now! Whoop it up for liberty!

Now, my friend, I also am Irish, but I’m a bit more logical. The capitalist, I say, is a parasite on industry; as useless in the present stage of our industrial development as any other parasite in the animal or vegetable world is to the life of the animal or vegetable upon which it feeds.

The working class is the victim of this parasite – this human leech, and it is the duty and interest of the working class to use every means in its power to oust this parasite class from the position which enables it to thus prey upon the vitals of labour.

Therefore, I say, let us organise as a class to meet our masters and destroy their mastership; organise to drive them from their hold upon public life through their political power; organise to wrench from their robber clutch the land and workshops on and in which they enslave us; organise to cleanse our social life from the stain of social cannibalism, from the preying of man upon his fellow man.

Organise for a full, free and happy life FOR ALL OR FOR NONE.

Look at the end of the day they were men fighting for freedom
fighting for what the believed in,fighting for the land and country they loved. so what difference does it make what group they belonged to..they all believed in 1 thing and that was the freedom of IRELAND!...

Connolly on numerous occasions accepted the help of and helped out himself, people who were not anti-capitalist but had a common goal, look at the 1798 commeroations he was involved in. Its true Connolly was never a member of Sinn Féin but he did join the IRA/IRB, and we believe that our party is the heir of these great men and women's legacies. Disagree with us if you like but we're a damn site closer to their ideals than the Labour party which was set up by Connolly himself!

Not one member of Sinn Fein was in the GPO in 1916 and thats the myth. The IVF, ICA, MnH had no connections other than social with Griffiths tiny pamphleteering "twin monarchy" home rule variation party, which owed more to the Austro-Hungarian empire than to the republic.

But they did get the blame........
& then exploded as a political party. Just like they got the blame for the IRA, well iv'e news for you, the IRA had nothing to do with PSF. they were all Greenies. Trevor was the real chief of staff. Now vote greenie!!!!!
Mr griffith did quite well on his political career all things considered.. didn't he?

James Connoly and the Irish Citizen Army were planning & had planned their own military action before the IVF/IRB gig of 1916 , and one Sean mac Diarmada got wind of it (coz that was his job :: to get wind of everything) and despite much antipathy, convinced him (& more importantly Eva Gore Booth, the Countess Markievicz ( & her gals and unmanageble pals ) to cancel / postpone their rebellion and pitch in with other lot. The other lot ranged from the boring gaeilgoir crypto-fascists, to the athletic types, to the usual cu-cuchail abu types, to the fleet of foot mathematicians. What is most interesting, is that James did what mac Diarmada told him to, despite the same argument (not large enough or military prepared enough) applied equally to both ICA and IVF. & also it saw the divvying up the strategic sites of the 1916 rebellion. And to lasting shame the taking of Dublin Castle as one of the several sites rationed to the ICA failed miserably, and crucially. & thats where P. O'Neill was to come in. By RTS! 2016 I'll make sure you all know what exactlyhappened April 23rd 1916.

Because strangely enough very few people _ do know_ indeed as few people who have read any of Roger Casement's "diaries"
