Short report on this weekend's activities in Rossport Solidarity Camp, including lots of visitors, tours, music, etc..

Willie Corduff giving welcoming speech to assembled hordes at Ballinaboy.
Contingents from NUI Maynooth Global Awareness Society, UCD Global Action, and Dublin Shell to Sea, travelled to Rossport Solidarity Camp this weekend.
Today there was a tour of the area, taking in the beachhead at Glengad, where it is proposed the pipeline will hit land, the refinery site at Ballinaboy, the compound and section of the pipeline route in Rossport, and Carrowmore Lake, which is currently being polluted by run off from the mess made by brief construction work at Ballinaboy.
Lots of residents came down to Ballinaboy to greet their visitors, and the horsebox, which is base of operations for the Ballinaboy Shell to Sea picket since June, was specially brought out, it normally being stationed there on weekdays only.
This evening there were filmshowings at the camp, and talks on Nine Ladies Anti-Quarry protest site in the Peak District in England, Anarchism in North America, and on the Climate Camp and Earth First! Summer Gathering happening in Britain this August/September.
To employ a woeful cliché spirits were not dampened by the weather!
Some construction is on the agenda for tomorrow, Sunday, followed by traditional music in a pub nearby to the camp.
Later in the month there is to be a trip up to Erris by a cross-society party of NUI Galway students.

Great to see the Solitary Camp going from strengh to strengh. Currently unable to drink tap water here in NW Mayo thanx to Shell's disregard for peoples health and the environment. All this goes on while the gombeens in Mayo Co. Co. stand idly by.Tap water now so polluted with Aluminium that even the dogs refuse to drink it!!!.
thanks to everyone at the camp for having us stay with them. ye are really doing a great thing and hopefully shell will cop on and fuck off
Thanks for the great weekend, The welcome from the locals was something else. Amazing.
Wish I could have stayed longer.
I'll be back though
