The Narrative Arts Club proudly presents:
An evening of storytelling for Valentine’s night, featuring the swamp party with New Orleans’ own Angela Davis.

Come to an evening of romantic tales to warm your heart, ignite your imagination, and see life through windows of wonder. Sit back, relax and enjoy a variety of Irish and international storytellers to excite your passions and refill your hopeful heart.

Tiny James from Nigeria.

Valentine’s night: 14 February, 2006
Library Bar, Central Hotel, Exchequer St.
Doors 7.30 for 8 pm start.

This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself to a romantic and rowdy, paddle-wheeling canoe journey through the thick of the Louisiana swamplands, with the gorgeous, the courageous, the outrageous Angela Davis from New Orleans. There will be plenty of jazzy singing and down-home fun, with authentic Mardi Gras souvenirs.

Be regaled by the crazy innuendo of Mr. Al E. Gator, who may want to eat some delectable young lady snatched from your canoe. - All staged in good-natured fun, with no prior rehearsal! Then take a quick detour through the heart of the Cajun capital, where you’ll meet the legendary swamp monster, the Loup Garou. You’ll laugh out loud as Michaul the Cajun whips up a crawfish boil that will make your mouth feel like it’s on fire! Round out the evening with a second-line dance parade and some Mardi Gras festivities you won’t forget too soon!

Angela Davis, the Yarnspinner – biography
Through song, humour, movement, drama and audience participation, Angela, the Yarnspinner, pulls threads from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, African-American, Cajun, modern and updated traditional stories, weaving the themes of self-esteem and choice-making to motivate and capture the imagination of today’s audience, young and old.

The Narrative Arts Club was founded to promote innovative storytelling for young urban adults. The club was launched in the Central Hotel, Dublin, on 17 November, 2005, with performances by Ferrino, Coilín ÓhAiseadha, Ciarán MacMathúna and English-Yiddish storyteller Shonaleigh.

I hope nobody makes the mistake of thinking this is a commercial event, as admission fees will only barely cover the room rental, even if the gig is sold out! We're only doing it for the craic!
