US Man of God calls for assasination of Chavez

category international | crime and justice | other press author Tuesday August 23, 2005 22:11author by + sticks and stones Report this post to the editors

US Christian TV broadcaster Pat Robertson
has called on the US authorities to assasinate President Chávez of Venezuela for exporting islamic fundamentalists and communists globally.

The Venezuelan state, have called for the terrorist minister to face the law.

Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel spoke one day after Mr. Robertson called for the murder of Chávez.

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability,"

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.."

"It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

A spokeswoman for the Christian Broadcasting Network told the BBC: "We are at a time of war and Pat had war on his mind when he made the comments."

Robertson once dealt with feminism.
It "encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

so there+

Under U.S. law it is illegal to assassinate the leader of a foreign country in case you didn't know.

Time magazine, has decided that the Reverend Robertson's comments will act as a boost to the Venezualan image.

Venezuala has set up a new pan-Latin American TV station called Telesur to rival CNN and the other Spanish-language news channels coming out of Miami and Atlanta. It includes on it's council the free software pioneer Richard Stallman, and actor Danny Glover!

Is this the begining of South American solidarity against hegemony?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telesur

"TeleSUR
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Telesur)

This article is about the television network company named teleSUR in the nation of Venezuela. For the unrelated telecommunications company in Suriname of the same name, see Telesur (Suriname).

The title of this article is incorrect due to technical limitations. The correct title is teleSUR.

Televisora del Sur ("Television of the South", teleSUR) is a pan-Latin American television network based in Caracas, Venezuela. It began broadcasting on July 24, 2005.

Proposed by Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez, teleSUR is meant as a counterweight to popular privately-run networks in South America like CNN and Univision. It is also intended as a spur toward South American integration. The network is jointly owned and funded by many countries: at first, Venezuela (51%), Argentina (20%), Cuba (19%), and Uruguay (10%), with the prospect of other countries joining later. These countries as well as Brazil (which is working on its own international TV channel, TV Brasil) will collaborate on content and technology.

It's advisory council is formed by many international and regional intellectuals, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, poet Ernesto Cardenal, writers Eduardo Galeano and Tariq Ali, newspaper editor and historian Ignacio Ramonet, free software pioneer Richard Stallman, and actor Danny Glover.

A week before the network began broadcasting, the United States House of Representatives voted to enable the US administration to begin broadcasting its own television signals to Venezuela; a plan intended to counter what it called anti-US propaganda."

However, the US continues to interfere in the Venezualan democratic process by supporting the opposition.

http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=452&row=0
"But to feed and house the darker folk in those bread and brick lines, Chavez would need funds, and the 16% slice of the oil pie wouldn't do it. So the President of Venezuela demanded 30%, leaving Big Oil only 70%. Suddenly, Bill Clinton's ally in Caracas became Mr. Cheney's -- and therefore, Mr. Bush's -- enemy.

So began the Bush-Cheney campaign to "Floridate" the will of the Venezuela electorate. It didn't matter that Chavez had twice won election. Winning most of the votes, said a White House spokesman, did not make Chavez' government "legitimate." Hmmm. Secret contracts were awarded by our Homeland Security spooks to steal official Venezuela voter lists. Cash passed discreetly from the US taxpayer, via the so-called 'Endowment for Democracy,' to the Chavez-haters running today's "recall" election.

A brilliant campaign of placing stories about Chavez' supposed unpopularity and "dictatorial" manner seized US news and op-ed pages, ranging from the San Francisco Chronicle to the New York Times"

The Rio Group of nations has passed a motion of censure and issued a demand for criminal proceedings to be taken against the Rev. pat Robertson by the USA.

The Rio Group consists of Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, República Dominicana, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay, Venezuela and Guyana.

They have been holding a summit of prime ministers and ministers of common areas of concern in Argentina this week which has just concluded with a strong message of support for Venezuela, and an insistence in the continuing UN mission in Haiti and expressed support for the continuing peace processes in Colombia [between state and AUC, state and FARC and state and other smaller armed narcotrafficants].

In a statement read at a press conference given by Rafael Bielsa (Argentina), Celso Amorim (Brazil) and Samuel Insanally (Guyana, the next host state to the groups summit), the Rev. Pat Robertson described as "founder of the Christian Coaltion an organisation linked to sectors of the Republican Party of the USA" and demanded "that legal processes be opened which corresepond to this case, which clearly counts as a crime".

How high does it go? Robertson could have won the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson

"Robertson ran on a very conservative platform. Among his policies, he wanted to eliminate illegal drugs and pornography, reform the education system by allowing the Bible in public schools, eliminate Conrail[*] and Amtrak, and eliminate departments such as the Department of Education and the Department of Energy.

When the presidential primary election season started in early 1988, Robertson actually had a decent chance of winning the nomination. However, a couple of setbacks destroyed his campaign."

[*][As an aside on Conrail
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrail
"After considerable debate in Congress, the US government sold its controlling interest in Conrail in 1987 for $1.9 billion in the largest initial public stock offering in the nation's history at that time."]

-------------------------------------------

More time saving wiki snippets on Christ's representative here on Earth.

"In 1950, Robertson began service in the Korean War. In chapter 12 of his book, "The Taking of Hill 610 And Other Essays on Friendship" ASIN: B0006OZPKA, Paul "Pete" McCloskey, Jr. asserts that Robertson served in Korea as the "liquor officer" responsible for keeping the officers' clubs supplied with liquor. There, McCloskey claims, Robertson was known to drink and to frequent prostitutes.[2]"

"When the Family Channel became too profitable for Robertson to keep it under the CBN umbrella without endangering CBN's nonprofit status, he formed International Family Entertainment, Inc. in 1990 with the Family Channel as its main subsidiary. Robertson sold the Family Channel to the News Corporation in 1997, which renamed it Fox Family. A condition of the sale was that the station would continue airing Robertson's television program The 700 Club twice a day in perpetuity, regardless of any changes of ownership. It is now owned by Disney as ABC Family."

"The second setback, which ultimately ended his campaign, was a small part of his campaign literature. In it, he stated he was a combat Marine who served in the Korean War. When word of this got out, several Marines in his battalion were furious with the remark, saying he had never spent a day in a combat environment. Instead of fighting in the war, Robertson's primary responsibility was supplying alcoholic beverages for his officers. After his fellow soldiers spoke out, many were furious with Robertson, and in the end, it was one of the biggest contributors to the downfall of his campaign."

"During his presidential campaign, reporters investigating his record discovered a discrepancy between the date on the Robertsons' marriage license and the date he had written on several legal documents, raising questions as to the reason for the wedding. Robertson said he had never denied being somewhat wild as a young man, but was vague about his reasons for giving a false date. The issue for many was his apparent desire to lie about the matter after becoming a popular religious exemplar."

"After his failed attempt to run for president, Robertson used his campaign organization to start a political organization called the Christian Coalition, which campaigned mostly for Christian conservative candidates."

"In 2002, he received the State of Israel Friendship Award from the Zionist Organization of America for his consistent support for Greater Israel. In that year the Coalition for Jewish Concerns also expressed its gratitude to Robertson for "unwavering support for Israel" and "standing up to evil.""

"Robertson claims to have used the power of prayer to steer hurricanes away from his companies' Virginia Beach, Virginia headquarters. He took credit for steering the course in 1985 of Hurricane Gloria, which caused millions of dollars of destruction in many states along the east coast. He made a similar claim about another destructive storm, Hurricane Felix, in 1995."

"He agreed with Falwell that the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were caused by "pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU and the People for the American Way." "

"Robertson repeatedly supported former President of Liberia Charles Taylor in various episodes of his 700 Club program during the United States' involvement in the Liberian Civil War in June and July 2003.............

Robertson has been criticized for failing to mention in his broadcasts his $8 million investment in a Liberian gold mine..........

According to Robertson, the Liberian gold mine Freedom Gold was intended to help pay for humanitarian and evangelical efforts in Liberia, when in fact the company was allowed to fail leaving many debts both in Liberia and in the international mining service sector."

"Robertson's net worth is between $200 million and $1 billion USD according to the 2002 book The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast."

"Through his ostensibly charitable organization, Operation Blessing International, Robertson claims to have spent $1.2 million bringing aid to refugees in Rwanda. His critics, such as Palast, claim the money was actually spent to bring heavy equipment for Robertson's African Development Corporation, a diamond mining operation. He has purchased thoroughbred race horses, although he has stated on many occasions he is opposed to gambling. Robertson claims he bought the horses because he is "amazed by their athleticism"."

Of course, none of this relates to some central tenets of Christianity; the central golden rule (or Ethic of reciprocity) of Christianity ("Do unto others as you would have others do unto you")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethic_of_reciprocity
and strangely seem more like one of the satanic statements (or commandments)(4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates! ).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism

One of the few very consistent messages in the scriptures is helping out "the least of these" and “to each as any had need” and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”?! None of what Robertson preaches ties in with those Bible quotes and the ones below.

Some Bible quotes that would make Robertson et al writhe in horror, yes indeed Jesus was a socialist :0 :)

-----------------
“Matthew 25:31-40
31 ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” 37Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” 40And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”a””

“Acts 4:32-35

32: Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common.
33: And with great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
34: There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of what was sold
35: and laid it at the apostles' feet; and distribution was made to each as any had need.”

“Luke 18:18-27 " And a ruler asked him, 'Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' And Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.' And he said, 'All these I have observed from my youth.' And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, 'One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.' But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard it said, ' Then who can be saved?' But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

“Luke 20:24-25" Show me a coin. Whose likeness and inscription has it?" They said, "Caesar's." He said to them, "Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."”

“Romans 13:1-7 " Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due." ”

“Matthew 22:37-40 " And you shall love your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."””

the Rev. PR has apologised to Chavez by now, and the Rev. Haggard another U$TV evangelical is seeking a meeting with Chavez to talk god, the DEA, the FBI, and re-assure the christian folk back home that their missionaries are safe in Venezuela.
This story is a good example of how little we in Europe understand the real heartland and concerns of the christian fundamentalist USA, Bush is their president. Was really quite an achievement on behalf of the us republicans to combine Oil War and God.
But this is the bible belt's "first story" of the summer since the Schiavo coma case, and interestingly their stories always counter balances euro-christian interest in the pope.
You don't get much U$TV coverage of the pope or of Chavez, the Rev PR has brought Venezuela into the living room of the bible belt.

M. G. "Pat" Robertson has achieved national and international recognition as a religious broadcaster, philanthropist, educator, religious leader, businessman, and author. He is the founder and chairman of The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) Inc., and founder of International Family Entertainment Inc., Regent University, Operation Blessing International Relief and Development Corporation, American Center for Law and Justice, The Flying Hospital, Inc. and several other organizations and broadcast entities.

Founded in 1960, CBN was the first Christian television network established in the United States. Today CBN is one of the world's largest television ministries and produces programming seen in 200 nations and heard in 70 languages including Russian, Arabic, Spanish, French and Chinese. CBN's flagship program, The 700 Club, which Mr. Robertson hosts, is one of the longest running religious television shows and reaches an average of one million American viewers daily.

Operation Blessing International Relief and Development Corporation, founded by Mr. Robertson in 1978, is a non-profit relief and development organization with a mission statement "to demonstrate God's love by alleviating human need and suffering in the United States and around the world." OBI has touched the lives of more than 175 million people in 96 countries and all 50 U.S. states, distributing more than $750 million in goods. To help break the cycle of suffering, OBI implements programs that focus on the primary goals of providing hunger relief, medical aid, disaster relief, and community development that will make a significant, long-term impact on those in need.

Robertson was the founder and co-chairman of International Family Entertainment Inc. (IFE). Formed in 1990, IFE produced and distributed family entertainment and information programming worldwide. IFE's principal business was The Family Channel, a satellite delivered cable-television network with 63 million U.S. subscribers. IFE, a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, was sold in 1997 to Fox Kids Worldwide, Inc. for $1.9 billion. Disney acquired the Fox Family Channel in 2001 and named it ABC Family.

Located in Virginia Beach, Va., Regent University was founded in 1977 by Robertson, who serves as its president and chancellor. Regent is a fully accredited graduate university that offers degrees in business, communication & the arts, divinity, education, government, law, organizational leadership and psychology & counseling. In addition, Regent offers a bachelor's degree completion program. Regent University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees, and has enrollment of nearly 3,000 students. In addition to the main campus in Virginia Beach, Regent has a Graduate Center in Northern Virginia/D.C. and offers programs online via their Worldwide Campus.

Robertson is founder and president of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), a public interest law firm and education group that defends the First Amendment rights of people of faith. The law firm focuses on pro-family, pro-liberty and pro-life cases nationwide.

Marion Gordon "Pat" Robertson was born on March 22, 1930, in Lexington, Virginia, to A. Willis Robertson and Gladys Churchill Robertson. His father served for 34 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. Robertson's ancestry includes Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and governor of Virginia, and two United States presidents, William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison, the great-grandson of the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Robertson also shares ancestry with Winston Churchill.

After graduating with honors from McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a military prep school, Robertson entered Washington and Lee University in 1946, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Lee in 1950, Robertson served as the assistant adjutant of the First Marine Division in combat in Korea. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1952 upon his return to the United States. Robertson received a juris doctor degree from Yale University Law School in 1955 and a master of divinity degree from New York Theological Seminary in 1959.

In November 1959 Robertson left New York with his wife, Dede, and their three children and drove to Tidewater, Virginia, where he planned to buy a bankrupt UHF television station in Portsmouth. Arriving with only seventy dollars in his pocket, Robertson proceeded to raise the finances to purchase the station. CBN was formed January 11, 1960, and on October 1, 1961, CBN went on the air for the first time.

Robertson is the author of fifteen books including "The Ten Offenses," "Bring It On," "Six Steps To Revival," "The Turning Tide," "The New Millennium," "The New World Order," and his first fiction, "The End of the Age." "The Secret Kingdom" was number three on Time magazine's national non-fiction list. "The New World Order" was number four on the New York Times' non-fiction list of America's best selling books. "The Secret Kingdom," "Answers to 100 of Life's Most Probing Questions," and "The New World Order" were each in their respective year of publication the number one religious book in America.

Numerous governors, state legislators and mayors have recognized Robertson's humanitarian efforts with citations. In 1982, he was named Humanitarian of the Year by Food for the Hungry. In 1988 Robertson was named Man of the Year by Students for America and Christian Broadcaster of the Year by National Religious Broadcasters in 1989. In 1992, Robertson was selected by Newsweek magazine as one of America's 100 Cultural Elite. In recognition of his steadfast support for the nation of Israel, Robertson received the Defender of Israel Award in January 1994 from the Christians' Israel Public Action Campaign. In March 2000, Robertson received the prestigious Cross of Nails award for his vision, inspiration and humanitarian work with the Flying Hospital. The award was presented for the first time in the United States in more than 25 years. In July 2002, Robertson was presented with The State of Israel Friendship Award by the Chicago chapter of the Zionist Organization of America.

Robertson is past president of the prestigious Council on National Policy. In 1982 he served on President Ronald Reagan's Task Force on Victims of Crime. He is currently a member of the Board of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and previously served on the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors in the State of Virginia.

Pat and Dede Robertson have four children and fourteen grandchildren and reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Question to the Reverend :
When is it right to go to war?

The Reverend's answer :
The Catholic Church has a concept of a "just war" -- not a holy way, mind you, but a just war. I don't believe in so-called holy wars, that you're going into battle for a holy cause. Too often, such misguided jingoism leads to fanatacism.
But there are "just wars," when nations go to war to defend their people against aggression or to liberate the oppressed from wickedness. During World War II, for example, Adolf Hitler controlled most of Europe. He brought nation after nation under the domination of his wickedness, and in the process, he emptied Europe of a large part of its Jewish population. It was just and right for the United States of America to enter that war to prevent the annihilation of freedom and liberty and justice in those nations held hostage by Hitler.

Similarly, it was right for us to go to war after we were savagely attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Franklin Roosevelt said that December 7, 1941, was a "day that would live in infamy."

We experienced a similar type of unwarranted, unprovoked attack on America on September 11, 2001. Consequently, it is appropriate for America to declare these attacks as acts of war, and the measured, calculated response of the U.S. has been within biblical grounds (see Romans 13:1-4). It is a just and right cause to do so.

Question to the Reverend :

My name is Alec. I am 13, and I want to know if you can be forgiven for killing another human being? I ask this question because I have wanted to be a U.S. Marine since I was 8 years old. Since the terrorist attacks on this great nation, it made me think about it more.
the Reverend's answer :

Well, Alec, I was a lieutenant in the Marines and I served in Korea. The Bibles says, "He that wields the sword does not do so in vain, but he is a minister of God to execute judgment on evildoers" (Romans 13:4). I don't like war any more than any other thinking person. But the time does come when free people must defend their freedom and rescue those who are oppressed from wicked men who would enslave them and destroy them.

All countries have a right of self-defense. If they are attacked, it is perfectly appropriate to go to war against the attacker. The Marines have played a very valiant role in many significant battles in which the United States has been involved. I would tell you that you do not have to feel ashamed if you wish to join the Marines; nor, if you go into battle in a just war, of the fact that you may have to wound or even kill another human being who happens to be an enemy solider coming against you.

One place to deport that hate-filled cleric to would be Ballymena. He could then keep the "Rev" Ian company. One more religious looper there would not make much difference.

So who are the greatest threat to peace and security, worldwide in 2005 ?

Obviously the evangelical, right wing Christian militia who currently run the richest nation on this planet.

The organisation that this individual belongs to has spawned so many right wing loons, who believe that JC told them to skin you and me alive in the name of Protestant fundemaenta; traditional values.

In calling for the assasination of a popular socialist leader PR has just articulated the dominate view held by the CIA ( Christian Identity Agency..)...

So nothing has changed. The USA is still run by the WASP elite, who hypocritically talk about "Homeland Security " while happy to send death and mayhem abroad, to those parts of the world that they cannot buy.

Viva Chavez.

He also overestimates the capabilities of US covert ops.

The CIA and all the security appartus of the US have singularly failed to assassinate Castro despite many attempts (hopefully Chavez is getting advice from the Cubans).

Neither have they managed to find Bin Laden.

Their lack of competence, however, should not excuse this type of inflamatory remark.

However, it is probably as well to have it out in the open as once it has been said the US will now be obliged to ensure that it doesn't happen otherwise they'll rapidly run out of what few friends they have left!

Bush: "Sorry to Oil The Gospel and The Ten Commandments but Oil comes first."

US religious broadcaster Pat Robertson has called for the US to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Despite being elected twice in elections with a huge majority of the electorate behind him, and in a two-to-one landslide victory in a recall referendum the Christo-Fascist cleric said "We don't need another $200bn war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with," he added.

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
