offsite link Woke Activists Need to Read Their David Hume Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:16 | Dr James Allan
The great Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume would have some things to teach today's woke activists, says Prof James Allan: about a mind-independent reality that has no truck with claims of 'my truth'.

It's been a wet winter and this is bad news for farmers, says Ben Pile. But with agricultural yields increasing sharply over recent decades, there's no reason to link it to climate change or start catostrophising about it.

Chris Packham has hit back at claims made on GB News that half the world's population could die under Net Zero. But that seems like a fair estimate of the catastrophic harm of deindustrialisation, says Chris Morrison.

I wanted to go to this but couldnt

As a sighted person I got stuck in a lift cus I found it a little confusing and couldnt remember what the name of the floor I wanted to go to was - personally I think all lifts should be banned cus I found them a little confusing ;-)

I have mentioned the traffic lights story to many people over the last few weeks and they have reacted in disbelief

is there any arguement at all in its favour? - besides the fact that sighted people are too lazy to use their eyes to figure out which traffc lights are green for pedestrians? They should donate their eyes to the visually impaired who would perhaps make more use of them

Perhaps we should start a collection to buy these lazy sighted people guide dogs so that they dont get killed

do they spent the day going around in circles in revolving doors (when they finally cross that road) cus they find them confusing?

Keegan is an idiot and should spend a few weeks training a guide dog or he work as a guide dog in the future

perhaps he should be blind folded for a day and see what its like for a blind person?

in the second photo, I'm not sure if its looking at the other dog, or at the camera. they're very special aren't they? The cost to the charity organisation (Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind) for breeding, training and to support a Guide Dog partnership is €35,000. Over 80% of that income comes from voluntary contributions.

Pictures described:

"A crowd of demonstrators, all ages, some blind & some sighted, stand on the street in Dublin, carrying placards. Some placards say, "HONK 2 support the blind campaign for audible crossings", others say "What do we want? Audible Crossings, When do we want them? NOW!" A man in the foreground has a white cane in one hand, placard in the other."

"The crowd of campaigners, including blind & sighted people have completely occupied the pavement of a main street in Dublin. 2 labrador guide dogs can be seen in this picture, and one demonstrator has a loudhailer. The GARDA police accompany the demonstrators from the road side, ensuring safety."

The 3rd & fourth pictures focus on the guide dogs. One close-up shows a side profile of a golden labrador's head. They are appear unperturbed and well and truly "on duty".

The 5th picture shows 2 ladies standing on the steps of a large building, possibly the town hall. The lady on the right has a long white cane in her left hand and a placard in the right, held up. The placard says "Switch back on the audible crossings, and do it NOW!"

The 6th picture shows a male long cane user at a crossing, in 2 shots - First stopping at the crossing carefully, then confidently stepping across the street, long white cane in hand.

The next picture is another picture of the crowd of demonstraters, taken from a higher viewpoint, moving along the pavement.

The last picture shows the demonstrators gathered outside the town hall.
