http://www.paschhoff.com/ecotopia/index.html

in Ukraine in August 2003 and in Holland in August 2004, see:

is taking place this August in Moldova.

We would like to invite you to E C O T O P I A 2005 taking place in the Saharna nature reserve, in the Republic of Moldova from 1st to 14th of August.

This year's theme is Alternative Technologies [AT], but as always the program will be created by the participants.

We choose AT as the theme to encourage skill-sharing on issues such as renewable energy, solar power, waste management and recycling, green building and eco-housing, organic food production, windmills, green economy, green design and architecture, and green-everything.

Beside the AT, focus will be on east-west issues in Europe, planning local and global actions and developing ideas for new projects and campaigns on the European level.

The special thing about Ecotopia is that the program is made by participants. We are inviting you to come and give a workshop on AT, east-west or any topic you are interested in (climate change, sustainable transport, GMOs, organic food, action planning, alternative media, global politics and economics, migration, racism and xenophobia, etc.)

How to apply?

Please go to

www.eyfa.org/ecot05applic.html

where you can find all the information about how to register for giving a workshop and taking part in Ecotopia. You can register until July 10th, but people applying for travel reimbursement should apply not later than June 20th

Participation fee

The participation fee, used to cover the food costs, is ecorated - 10 ecos per day. To see how much is that go to

What is Ecotopia?

Ecotopia is an international gathering of young people from all over Europe involved or interested in environmental and social justice issues. It takes place every summer since 1989, each year in a different country. It is organised by EYFA (European Youth For Action) and by local grassroots environmental organisations as hosts. This year, the 17th ekotopia will take place in Moldova.

Ecotopia is a place for learning, exchanging experiences, spreading information about environmental, social, political and other issues, but also to have fun and recharge your activist batteries! Around 200 - 600 people attend Ecotopia each year, to share skills and discuss about a wide range of themes related to environmental problems: climate change, transport and mobility, GMOs, organic food, eco-building and sustainable infrastructure, global politics and global economic system, strategies for actions, experiences of campaigns, alternative media, migration, racism and xenophobia, cultural issues...

Ecotopia is also a model of self-sustainable community that puts into practice the principles of an environmentally friendly life-style: waste recycling, vegetarian kitchen, the use of alternative energy...another world exists! Where possible, Ekotopians participate in regional actions and clean ups, try to get local people interested in ecological problems and empower local organizations. Ecotopia is horizontally and self- organised; everyone is asked to take part in running the camp, solving problems and decision-making. Decisions are made by consensus during daily morning circles.

Protesters denouncing a Communist election victory in Moldova seized the president's offices today and broke into parliament, where they hurled furniture and computers into the street.

About 10,000 demonstrators in Europe's poorest country massed for the second straight day after the Communist Party led by veteran president Vladimir Voronin scored a big victory in a weekend parliamentary election.

Hours after the protests swept through the centre of the Moldovan capital, opposition leaders addressing a rally called for a new election...
