Hear about Greenways across Europe
Tuesday 31 May 2005

Royal Irish Academy, 19 Dawson Street, Dublin 2

10.30 am – 12.30 pm

To bring you first hand experience on the development of greenways in Europe, the Heritage Council invites you to a series of presentations from the European Greenways Association (EGWA) who are visiting Dublin as part of the Velocity conference.

What is a greenway? "Communication routes reserved exclusively for non-motorised journeys, developed in an integrated manner which enhances both the environment and quality of life of the surrounding area. These routes should meet satisfactory standards of width, gradient, and surface condition to ensure that they are both user-friendly and low -risk for users of all abilities ». (Declaration of Lille, 2000)

The purpose of this event is to

Present the concept of greenways
Present examples of greenways across Europe
Stimulate discussion on the potential for greenways in Ireland
Provide an opportunity for Irish promoters of greenways projects to meet
Presentations will include:

Jean Marie Tetart President of EGWA on the concept of greenways, Daniel Mourek, Czech Republic, on the central European greenways experience, Gilbert Perrin, Belgium on the RAVeL network in Wallonia, and Danielle Delaye on the developing network in France.
