World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

Read what happened when an Extinction Rebellion meeting was disrupted by a protester. Seems they can give it out but have no intention of putting up with it themselves.

Not sure whether you're aware of this, but it looks like something major is about to erupt in the SDS! Apparently it’s over the planned relocation of the SDS to Portlaoise. Just to let you know that the company have started suspending Sorters in SDS and the next move is the Drivers, I will keep you informed.

These are the latest developments in the SDS. A rapidly exploding situation. All the late staff have now been suspended. Watch this space!

I was originally going to publish this as a seperate article given the gravity of the SDS/An Post industrial relations situation, but that might mess everything up as I already have this story here. Anyway here goes.

CWU SETS MIDDAY TOMORROW DEADLINE FOR REINSTATEMENT OF 68 SDS WORKERS TO AVOID WIDENING DISPUTE

CWU condemns managements’ denial of Ministers request that dispute be resolved through IR machinery

Tuesday 25th January, 2005; An Post management have been given until 12 noon tomorrow to reinstate all suspended SDS workers or the CWU will give effect to it’s overwhelming mandate for industrial action to defend those members’ interests.

Following an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) today, the CWU is calling on the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to insist that An Post reinstates all 68 workers suspended by management since yesterday morning in the SDS service. The Union Executive has also condemned An Post management for failing to resolve all outstanding industrial relations issues through the machinery of the state; as called for by the Minister for Communications, Noel Dempsey, on December 8th last.

Following todays executive meeting, CWU Deputy Genera Secretary, Terry Delany stated ”In the event that the suspended employees have not been reinstated by 12 midday tomorrow the Union will immediately prepare to give effect to our members mandate by impacting the broader Postal Service.”

“The behaviour of An Post management both yesterday and today constitutes undue provocation. We have a situation where just three hours before a conciliation hearing to deal with these issues was to be held, the company suspended 43 staff. Last night the company again decided to turn its back on the machinery of the state and escalated the dispute even further by suspending 25 more staff members.

“This is all against the backdrop of bullyboy tactics by An Post management who have sought to force the relocation of staff from Dublin to Portlaoise without consultation”.

“It’s appalling that a wholly owned state company can recklessly disregard the states own machinery. The management of An Post have even seen fit to totally disregard the request made by Minister Dempsey last December for both sides to use the machinery of the state to resolve the disputes. The CWU has to date respected this request but cannot be expected to continue to be the only party willing to abide by agreements”.

Disruption to postal services is likely from later today due to a stand-off between An Post and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) over the closure of the company’s SDS subsidiary.

The CWU has threatened to engage in industrial action from noon today unless 68 workers at the parcel delivery service are reinstated to their jobs.

An Post ignores strike threat

Postal services across the country are likely to be hit by industrial action from tomorrow morning following An Post's decision not to reinstate 68 workers it suspended earlier this week.

The workers were suspended on Monday for refusing to co-operate with arrangements to integrate the SDS parcel delivery service into An Post's regular business.
