A Glen Of the Downs protesting crusty attacks a somalian man in Dublin nightclub.

A Glen Of the Downs protestor who thrust a knife into a Somalian's mouth after insulting him racially at a Dublin night club has been jailed for three years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Stuart Murphy (aged 27), a Corkman of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and to brandishing a knife on O?Connell Street on September 19, 2002. He also pleaded guilty to stealing a car and driving it dangeoursly on Westmoreland Street on January 15, 2003. Sergeant Sean McAvinchey told prosecuting counsel, Mr Paul Green BL, Murphy approached the Somalian at the Parnell Mooney disco and asked to share some cannabis being smoked at the table. During the conversation that followed the injured man, who was socialising with friends, became uneasy at the turn the conversation with Murphy was taking and began ignoring him. Sgt McAvinchey said Murphy became angry as he continued to be ignored and began making remarks about foreigners arriving in Dublin and taking jobs from Irish citizens. He then took a knife and thrust it into the Somalian man?s mouth. The injured man, whose mouth was cut, warned others in the premises that Murphy had a knife and he ran out of the club. Some people followed him and he began brandishing the knife while standing near a taxi rank on O?Connell Street. "I will kill you, you black bastards," he shouted while threatening to use the knife. He was apprehended shortly afterwards by gardaí from Store Street station who were patrolling the area. Murphy was on bail for the offences when he was seen driving a stolen car on Westmoreland Street on January 15, 2003. When gardaí on the look out for the car had asked him to pull over he refused to do. He then tried to reverse the car forcing one coming behind him to swerve in order to avoid a collision. Counsel for Murphy, Mr Sean Gillane BL, said his client apologises for the racial insults and wanted the court to know that they were in no way consistent with the views he normally held. As a man who cared for the environment and the world at large, he was not prone to such views. Mr Gillane said Murphy suffered from transient psychotic incidents triggered by his dependence on various drugs. Judge Michael White sentenced Murphy to two and a half years for the knife attack and to six months consecutively for stealing the car and driving it dangerously.

Although you have identified the assailant as a Glen of the Downs protestor we can have no significant scientific link between crustiness and violent tendencies without knowing the state of crustification his hair and appearance showed at the time of the assault. If you could please provide such essential information i believe most readers would still ignore your comments offhand.

Young Mr Bruton is absolutly correct. Alternative, dreadlocked types are actually ex neo nazis in disguise. Its true, they get aroused every time they see Triumph of the Will.

If you speak to clever people like uh, say, Daniel Pipes, or some other intellectual for hire from the white house, they will tell you that, right now, there is a link betwen neo nazis, islamists, and crusty lefty types. The latter are into this because they have become nihilistic.

Real proper dapper chappies will ALWAYS be neatly dressed, in firm attire, and the best clothes money can buy ( Stone Island TM). These chaps actually contribute to society by working in the City ( yes, that one, in the UK), or working as engineers, or lots of respectable professions.

At the weekends, these wholesome young men will engage in traditional routs and duels at soccer matches, thus passing on the noble art of adversarial conduct, a fit and ideal pursuit that helps a man become a man.

Young people can learn a lot from these noble young bloods, by wearing stone island(TM), spitting at the poor and voting PD.

Protest sites, generally, attracted some strange people... I don't believe Stuarts little spin-out on O'Connell Street should reflect entirely on the integrity of the Glen campaign.
I think I remember Stuart, though I was less than 2 weeks on the Glen site... a lot of it's fuzzy now...

Let me tell you a few things about the old Crustie scene... firstly, In my 3 years on protest sites in the UK, from first-hand experience, somebody completely freaked out every three weeks. Once, in Kent, a tribe member hung himself from a treehouse, dead. Overdoses were rare, I only remember 2 instances (once my own)... but broken bones from falls were a monthly occurence. There was a lot of positive energy on sites... but a lot of fucked-up people would find their way there too...as disenchanted with the world as we...
There was a badge we wore, I suppose, and we used to get kicked out of pubs, shops, offices, anywhere, just for the way we looked... and that bred some resentment in all of us... until the cynicism we faced everywhere we went could no longer be faced with our "non-violent direct-action"... so we (a few of us) started kicking the shit out of people to teach them a lesson...
I know this sounds quite extreme, but that's the truth... people were pricks to us, so we started breaking things... point in fact, June 18th 1999... then we were hunted, quite a few imprisoned... anger is possibly the strongest emotion... me, I went to Eastern Europe kept fighting as a professional, hunting down neo-nazis, and, yes, kicking the crap out of them... and I've told all you cynical bastards back in Ireland before to watch out, but why bother... you guys are just an American colony now, right?

I think most people fail to realize that it was a war being waged, back then... (a premature ecowar maybe?) and there are still a lot of the shell-shocked wandering about lost (Ireland but got a small ripple from the UK).... There was little support, and thousands volunteered their youth to the cause, but to no end or reward. We were convinced that the tree-sites were the training-grounds for the next generation of leaders (but maybe that has yet to come...)
So, when you talk about an old crustie freaking out and stabbing an immigrant in the face, I can see that happening... He probably never got the support to do what he did in the protests, and was probably given scant opportunity to re-integrate... He probably felt more of an outcast in his own country than the successful Somalian immigrant before him... he probably was... and it probably flipped a switch...

A lot of these eco-warrior/new age traveller/ crusties are as ignorant and oppressive as any bonehead with their "holier than thou" attitude. I know not all etc. etc... but enough to feed the cliche.

Remember Adrienne Murphy? She was the brain surgeons daughter, south Dublin non-crustifed spokesperson of the protest who gleaned a Latelateshow appearance and tried to get herself a media career on the back of it. (She plugged this idea for a programme of her and her kid travelling around South America, doesn't seem to have worked out for her). Point being the protest was concerned with media publicity and career building for some. I mean where are they now?

In relation to the bechipped shoulders, those poor crusties deserve a break they have become disillusioned with the world and envy those in the world that would walk a thousand miles for a bar of soap and running water.
They forged leaders from the camps and midnight vigils. The rest of the world might have considered them junkies with chips on their shoulders and poorly thought out opinions, but no, they were chosen from the assembled cider drinkers as leaders to lead the tribe into a new age of natural harmony, like that which existed before nasty reality got in the way.
They would lead the new tribe to the great dole office of ancient Celticness and the mushroom meadow that stretched to eternity. Non violent activism was their rallying call to all lost spirits to find a home and bask in the tribes energy. A new path for humanity would be found in the ancient embracing bows of our tree brethren. if peace and harmony wouldn't work they would use the gentle persuasion of berserker fits fueled by a magic cocktail of hallucinogens, extacy and cough mixture, the world would return to the glory of the middle ages where each man's caravan would be their castle and the children would revel in the beauty of illiteracy...OHHHHH FUUUUCK OFF and die already.
