offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

Former Texas Mayor compared to Alt Miss Ireland

category international | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday March 18, 2004 12:40author by maggie sinclairauthor email kanderuane at eircom dot netauthor address County Wexford Report this post to the editors

Candy Sheehan, the former mayor of Coppell, was compared to former Miss Alternative Ireland (1997) , Shirely Temple Bar, yesterday in Dublin on RTE.

Too bad Candy Sheehan didn't know about Ireland's beloved, uncrowned queen, Shirley Temple Bar, when she was told she looked just like her! When asked by RTE presenter Derek Mooney if she and Coppell were Bush supporters, former mayor Sheehan replied "We just love him!" Mooney then told Sheehan that she reminded him of Shirley Temple Bar. Sheehan didn't recognize the name--guess she doesn't follow Tellybingo, but Mooney reassured her that Shirley was "a very popular girl"!

Poor Shirley! Imagine being compared to such a right-wing wacko! The International Gay and Lesbian community should be outraged by this incident. Shirley's a doll, while Sheehan, both inside and out, seems to be something of a nightmare. If you want to compare for yourself, just check out these links:

What part of the States are you from?

Bush & Co. seek no less than theutter destruction of alternative lifestyles.
What does alternative mean. I fail to see how a corporate lawyer (for example) is 'alternative' because he likes to be buggered.

Haven't you heard about Bush's proposed constitutional amendment that allows only heterosexual partnerships?
State Validated Partnerships. We are all free to love who we please.

Did you know that yesterday all protection for U.S. federal workers against alt lifestyle discrimination was removed by a Bush appointee?
What does alternative mean. Am I supposed to love the log cabin republicans because they identify as homosexuals. Anyone working for the US State is not our ally.

This article is an insult to Candy Sheehan who looks nothing like Shirley Temple Bar (who looks disgusting by the way).

You've fleshed it out a bit, fair enough, however it is a tad contrived to jump from a media interview with some half witted right wing non-entity to a call for worlwide outrage.

"People like Ms. Bar are very much in the gunsights of the Bush neocons". Well I would have thought it was the Iraqi people actually in their gunsights.
This is Ireland, by the way, if your hackles are raised every time some throwback is allowed to infest the airwaves you'll be pissed off "24/7" as a septic might put it..

Candy Sheehan represents all that is despicable about those who blindly and blithely follow the misleader. Do you think Ms. Sheehan and her ilk would support Shirley Temple Bar's right to be who she is or to work with the public? People like Ms. Bar are very much in the gunsights of the Bush neocons--as are all of us who disagree with them. And they will come for us all eventually. Silly crap? A\

"The International Gay and Lesbian community should be outraged by this incident. " Look forward to seeing the worldwide street protests against this incredibly ourtageous incident.
