The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

The workers of the Brukman almost two years on are winning their case!

{"for being in the main women,
{"for demonstrating how to stop redundancy"
{"for leaping from the most brutal of oppression and being an example of dignity, The Workers of Brukman were converted into a symbol and pendant of Argentina in the world"}

Many readers will remember the events in Argentina two years ago, and with good reason, the failure of the banking system could not easily be kept from the Television screens.
But for those who don't, on two keys night of 2001 Argentina went into a popular revolt and assemblies and collectives throughout the country inspired the world yet again.

Of the many sites and names, perhaps Saurez and Brukman are the ones that still will provoke recognition.
Brukman was the most well known factory claimed by it's workers when the owners went "pop". They famously occupied it on December 18 2001. They continued to work, fulfill their contracts, exceed production targets, continue to export their products through the darkest days of the Argentine economic collapse to the "recovery" period of 2002. They increased productivity, they were in many ways through their anarcho-syndicalist assembly _proved_ the efficacy of a political ideology. And then when the "recovery" came, the previous "owners" sued to recover their business [complete with it's increased "value"].

That legal process is now almost at an end, and last night Argentina indymedia were delighted to put the news as a feature on their front page.
I recommend visiting the site and using the links to photographs of the Brukman workers as they are this week, and as they were almost two years ago.

{"for being in the main women,
{"for demonstrating how to stop redundancy"
{"for leaping from the most brutal of oppression and being an example of dignity, The Workers of Brukman were converted into a symbol and pendant of Argentina in the world"}

{"They suffered three evictions the last being a brutal battle which saw 10,000 workers made redundant at the point of tear gas and police batons."}

special dedication issue (for UCD).

white house: reaction to the war update.
they're not talking about it.
the matter is now delegated.
there were signs and post-its about the place for the first week, but interns have let us know that neither the words "war" or "iraq" have been heard in the last week.
