Regulating For Freedom REGULATING FOR FREEDOM
This series of twelve lectures explores the nature of human freedom. A number of academics authors, and journalists, will pose a succession of questions in Dublin Public Libraries throughout October, November and December 2003.
The lectures will examine the tension between collective and individual identity. Does the group provide the memory and rigour necessary to civilize? Is freedom only experienced individually? Does the group liberate or oppress individual members? Five sources of group identity will be discussed: gender, family, nationality, political ideology and religion.
In addition, lectures will examine equality legislation, directly addressing the paradox of regulating for freedom.

Anyone attending is expected to wear a blue shirt.
Seriously though, I don't see any of these lecturers as being at all progressive, other than perhaps Dick Spicer (purely on the humanist issue).
All of them seem to me to be revisionist on the national question. I suppose these lectures will attract the type of posers who think the like of Kevin Myers and Eoghan Harris are intellectuals.
I think I might have more interesting things to do on those days, like cutting my toenails.
Three from the Sunday Indo???? Anybody have any more details of how this happended? Or they sponsoring the event?
