The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Left Unity -Anti Racism

The Left Unity meeting in Belfast was standing room only and spilled into a second room. Also a report of next Anti Racist meeting.

The left Unity meeting in Belfast was standing room only and spilled into a second room at the Unemplyed Resource Centre in Belfast last night. I seen leading representation of nine of the smaller left and socialist parties in the room. Apart from this a number of leading trade union figures are involved in the project along with various other organisations and individuals. Many stated that they had not seen such a large and representative meeting in calls for Left Unity before. Speakers on the platform were represented by the CP,Workers Party and SWP. A number of proposals were agreed after an open discussion and a final representative meeting is to take place next week. It was said that such an initiative will be a beacon for working class persons and there will be a final discussion on the aim to perhaps stand in all eighteen constituencies in the North, something that has not been done in this context before.

On Oct 15th the second Anti Racist Network meeting shall take place in Belfast. This will be facilitated by the Chinese Welfare Association in the North. It shall take place at 7pm. Further details to follow. Apart from the first well represented meeting other trade unionists and various other organisation have also been confirmed as attendees for this next meting. A proposal for a Belfast Anti Racist rally amongst other issues is to be tabled. Will keep updated
