just like you get on the street. (incoporating the Rival Sunday Review/Preview/View the sunday paper

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking back at “topical issues” including September 11.

Dangerous places of which we shall never pretend there are not many :
Falluja is fast being recognised as one of the most dangerous points in Iraq for US soldiers. Only At 0800 (midnight EDT) this morning in Falluja, a vehicle convoy hit an IED (improvised explosive device)... one U.S. soldier was killed. There are Irish people in Iraq and one Caoimhe (pronounced kwee’vah) has previously sent accounts of the conditions in Falluja moving consideration of humanity. See the work of one half of that humanity:
http://www.peacewomen.org/resources/newvoices/OWFI.html
Equally we must always remember that there Iraqis in Ireland and increasingly their voices are being heard and their stories finding space.
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=61091

Famous People: Yassar Arafat is still alive and appears to be well, it It would be a pity if you recognise his face and have forgotten to find out why he has been on TV since the days of black and white. How much do you know about “the man behind the scarves”? The Sunday Review/Preview/View recommends http://www.ungoogle.com

Sensible Saving Options: The residents of Fingal are doing very well. They are continuing a campaign to stop the unfair extensión of municipal taxation which shall without doubt have serious implications for the environment, fortunes of many, and the continuing problems afflicting Future trading and perhaps Ireland’s internacional image as the Celtic Tiger.

Sport: Autumn begins and most workers especially parents are in debt. More employers are liquidated, globally crops are ruined and balls are still getting kicked. Pretty young Hungarian Zsazsana (17) has won the Miss Europe title and promises to work for world peace and global justice whilst finishing her university thesis.

Interesting Facts:
The rich live longer than you do.
The poor live shorter than you do.

Topical Issues.
As we all noticed by an odd twist of phonomic resonance this week say a Korean Farmer mr Lee Kyong-hae commited self-sacrifice in protest at the WTO meeting in Cancún http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=61057 whilst Mr Tommy Chong of the FBIstooge movies of the 1970s got charged with the corruption youth by being an example of the American dream.

IT. Can you protect your computer from virases or spam?

Mr Monbiot is coming to Belfast. What would you hear if you paid the eight pounds less fifty pence to attend his monster meeting? Would it be better than buying a copy of The Guardian? Would it buy you a cream pie. (please note that cream pie is a figurative term, a paper plate and lots of aerosol cream or shaving foam Works quite well and do remember to be gentle, the man isn’t a monster and noses are very sensitive) and all the people there will be really nice and are easily shocked.

The living section.
-Used to be called lifestyle
-before that it was called Women’s page
There is currently a vacancy for some decent living contributions.
Normal conditions will apply

Holidays: The assemblea de Okupes of Barcelona have convened a three day seminar highlighting the issues effecting European occupation, open and free spaces and a demonstration against the eviction of the oldest of those spaces in BCN against the backdrop of property speculation which has seen the cost of property increase by 125% in six years. They have issued an invitation to all to attend or support with information, ideas, diplomatic pressure, boycotts. UN resolutions, full page newspaper advertisements and of course lighting candles.
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2003/09/277500.html

Horoscope: How did you ever think, when you were so gullible? You need to be more assertive but don’t forget to always have that conciliatory side when its needed. The figure $ or it’s equivalent will feature strongly this week.

Media supplement:-
All the brain rotting TV drama series and comedy shows you saw on British channels whilst growing up are dubbed and broadcast throughout Europe.
including Yes Minister.

Health:-
In the last 2 weeks sufferers of MS, cancer and chronic artritis were allowed by law to be given Cannabis on prescription in the Netherlands after extenisve medical research and lobbying had satisfied the Dutch Authorities.

Problem page.
Many people wrote in with their worries, rest assured none of you are alone in your plight. Try talking to trusted loved ones or getting to know your neighbours by name. Never be afraid of admitting how stupid you can be. If you’re rude say sorry. If you drink or take drugs don’t drive. If you use a mobile phone, TV, or microwave try and maintain at least three metres distance from your internal organs at all times. If you cross the road look both ways. If you’re in a shop check your change before you leave. If you’re on the telephone try smiling before you call strangers. If you goto the toilet wash your hands afterwards. If you wash your feet regularly they’ll last a lifetime.
If you pick your nose make sure your fingernails are clean. If you go out in the Sun be careful of UVA. If you get caught in the rain wash it off. If you see shellfish near Dublín on the beach don’t eat them. If you notice a dolphin take it seriously.

Editorial.
This week the editorial team of the Sunday Review/Preview/View the Sunday Papers have allocated space to an Irishman abroad and his diary in the traditional pompous tone of "irishmen's diaries". [oh the poor legacy of Gagesby]

{“In the brief time since I arrived as guest, friend, worker, and sometime ideological refugee in the city where I live and its country, I have learnt that any society that has sustained for almost half the length of it’s democracy a world recognised network of reclaimed liberated space has demonstrably developed a distinct approach to its problems. And that such a network has extended the expression of those problems to not only the citizens of this city but the world at large. It is my understanding as a European that contemporary global cities are of several types. But only one type is to be found in the European Union, that where the regional state maintains urban order by the continuation of an urban state. Whose existance is guaranteed by varying apparata of both state and extra-state nature. Not alone in the apparata of the urban state but significant to my understanding of this city at the current point in it’s relation to other urban states of Europe, are Municipal Authority, Police and economic changes imposed by Superstate market forces. Too often the liberated spaces of community centres, squatted homes, social centres reclaimed from the city have not been thought of as the prisons of the poor and marginalised not as the departure lounges of liberation,self-sustainability, creativity, self-esteem all of which trace lines of escape from the misery being imposed from without. Yet no liberated space before or alter eviction has ever been reduced to Four walls, mortar and plaster. “it is an error to think of squats there are only those who squat”, & yet more beside those who value their role. The distinct approach to the problems of this city which have been informed by it’s peoples interaction with its liberated spaces appears to me to have served the greater good and identity of all.
maybe that observation is too honest for the future envisioned by some to whom power is ascribed in this city.
They who would send it to the four walls.
They who would rather build urban regeneration masked as a world forum on peace.
They who accepted sponsership from an arms manufacturer to promote peace. They who allow a brewer to sponser appeals for world understanding. They who allow the exploitors of sweatshops to sponser debate on sustainability.

I may be a guest, a friend, a sometime ideological refugee, a fellow European and as such my words be considered insulting to some but with respect, the values which are equally esteemed in this city as the world are attacked and undermined by such hypocrisy and it is my duty as a citizen of the wider global community to write as I do.
I beleive It would be a great mistake for the future of this city’s people, their value of self-sustainablity, their respect for the silenced dissenting voices of its past if they do not attend, assist or support the campaign to fight the sustained attack on occupied social centres, squatted homes, and liberated spaces.”}

Lawyer to Sue Jews for Biblical 'Plunder'
Thu Sep 11,10:23 AM ET Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

CAIRO (Reuters) - An Egyptian lawyer said Wednesday he was planning to sue the world's Jews for "plundering" gold during the Exodus from Pharaonic Egypt thousands of years ago, based on information in the Bible.

Nabil Hilmi, dean of the law faculty at Egypt's al-Zaqaziq University, said the legal basis for the case was under study by a group of lawyers in Egypt and Europe.

"This is serious, and should not be misread as being political against any race. We are just investigating if a debt is owed," Hilmi told Reuters in a telephone interview.

The relevant passage from the Bible, Exodus 12 verses 35 to 36 reads: "The Israelites had done as Moses told them; they had asked the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and gold, and for clothing. ... And so they plundered the Egyptians." This translation is in the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Some Jewish commentators say that while the Biblical passage may be fact, the Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians and therefore had a right to claim compensation for wages.

"Hilmi's assertion that the Hebrew Bible is fact has given Israel and Jews the world over a reason to rejoice. He has opened the door for all Jews to sue Egypt for over 400 years of slavery," writer Beth Goodman told Reuters.

Tareq Zaghoul, a lawyer at the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights in Cairo, said it would be difficult to prove historical fact in the passage that would stand up in court.

"This needs historical documents and evidence to back it up. It is rather far-fetched," he said.

Hilmi said Egyptian and European historical and religious experts were trying to establish if the biblical passage could be taken as fact, and hence form the basis for a lawsuit.

He said the argument that Jews could sue Egypt for enslaving them was also being studied by experts.

Hilmi gave no details of which court he planned to file the case in or whether he thought such a case would be exempt from the sort of statute of limitations that in many countries rules out legal cases after a certain period of time.

He also declined to put a value on the goods "plundered."

We have filed this letter away with your surname and a good description of one of the editorial team (is it a woman really?). On first reading we wonder would such a case act to question the legality of the modern state of Egypt's custody of one of the World's heritage sites (the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphynx). We have accordingly faxed (off the transaparent record Mr Hoagland to start a global campaign to buy the Pyramids dig them up and see how they _really_ work).

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths lawyers will go to for the purpose of parting anyone else from their money. However we must not get too frivilous about the various groups who might be entitled to sue one another.
Obviously things that happened a few thousand years ago are patently ridiculous, and not in the same bracket as things within living memory, but there are some people who might try to associate the two in an effort to denigrate and undermine the more modern cases.

The Worlds gone to pot if patients have to put up with bad tasting ganja!

Canada's medical marijuana leaves bad taste

By Ian Gunn
BBC correspondent in Vancouver

Some medical marijuana users in Canada say the drug being supplied by the government is disgusting.

The country's Ministry of Health began distributing the drug to a handful of patients with serious illnesses last month to comply with a court ruling.

Canada has allowed the use of medical marijuana for more than two years, but until the court order the government refused to provide the drug to approved users.

But now a patients' rights group says the first users of the official marijuana find it weak and nauseating.

Court ruling

Two years ago Canada became the first country to regulate medicinal cannabis, but there was a lack of official supply of the drug and some patients complained they still had to buy it from street dealers.

The Health Ministry's official supply is being grown underground in an abandoned mine in Canada's remote north.
Health Minister Anne McLellan says she does not want it distributed to patients, at least not yet.

But this July a court ruled the government had to sell the drug to patients, so that is now happening.

Unfortunately many patients say the government's marijuana is terrible, with one saying it made him physically ill, another reporting it to be so weak and unpleasant he is returning it to the government with hopes of getting his money back.

One medicinal marijuana lobby group also says test results show the official supply has little active ingredient and is contaminated with lead and arsenic.

The health minister says she is willing to have her officials meet with patients to discuss the problems.

But patients say the government really needs to rethink its marijuana strategy, which they say is costing millions of taxpayers' dollars and is producing a drug that is worse than most street product.

Have you bid a fond farewell to Barcelonas albino gorilla?

author by editor of the Sunday Review/Preview/View the Sunday Papers.publication date Wed Sep 17, 2003 13:05author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Ken Kesey.

Today's reporting of the death of the albino Gorila of Barcelona nestles in the Spanish papers amongst other news:
Six people aged 21-26 were detained yesterday by the Guardia Civil under anti-terrorism legislation.
The group are described by the Guardia Civil as being a _radical_ and _insurrectionist_ anarchist group with links to similar Italian groups.
They are accused of continuing an "urban terror" campaign which has included letter bombs to embassies and editorial offices of newspapers, firebombing banks and generally being most unpleasant.
Amongst the items seized were a pistol, a revolver, a belt of ammunition 12 mm, equipment for the manufacture of explosives, a bottle of gasoline, two manuals on the manufacture of explosives, wigs, sunglasses, a book dated 1921 on the manufacture of fireworks, and the infamous so called "anarchist's handbook".
http://www.lavanguardia.es/web/20030917/51144548004.html
The Guardia Civil report that they uncovered this "anti-system" cell after monitoring visits to others arrested under the FIES programme in the last year. Though not stated, it is thought that the Italian links being reffered to are the support group of convicted bank robber and murdered Lavazza.
The Guardia Civil alledge that the group arrested yesterday originally were assembled in Tarragona from whence they moved to BCN to carry out a campaign of "urban terror".
*************************************************
This sort of thing is not very useful to the cause of Anarchism, Libertarianism or the constructive channeling of the energy of rebellious youth.
=Down with this type of thing!

*************************************************
Yesterdays crime figures for the Spanish State show a drop in "terrorist crime" to a little over 350 attacks in 2002. Of which 320 were related to Basque seperatismk and 30 to "radical insurrectionist anarchists".
*************************************************
The albino Gorila "Copita" came to BCN in 1966, and vetinarians have decided to stop prolonging his life, (he had skin cancer) and so he was "humanely" killed by lethal injection yesterday.

At a Veterans Administration hospital in Menlo Park, California, Kesey was paid volunteer experimental subject, taking mind-altering drugs & reporting their effects. His experiences as an aide at a psychiatric hospital & LSD sessions served as background for One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest, which was set in a mental hospital. The book reveals the dehumanising effects of the social conformity of the 1950s, & gained huge critical & commercial success.
Kesey formed the 'Merrie Pranksters', bought an old school bus, & toured America & Mexico with his friends. Their weird exploits were later chronicled in Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1973).

I collect WW2 amunition and NAZI memorabilia and as such couldn't help notice that those radical and obviously misguided youngsters over in BCN had a belt of WW2 anti-tank ammunition, I wonder could you Editor use your influence to ascertain whether or not other youngsters have the required anti-tank gun to make use of such 16mm rounds?

Dear Sean,
I feel obliged by my obvious experience in such matters to tell the P.P. a thing or two.
12mm amunition was indeed used as anti-tank and armour piercing ordinance during the WW2 period, however with modern armour, you'd need a lot more than 12mm or even 16mm to "stop a tank".

I also am a man of varied hobbies and one is a sort of monitoring of the various anarchist groupings and collectives in BCN. It seems quite clear to anyone with even a scant familiarity with those people, that they're more likely to be touting cardboard guns than heavy artilery. They are a pacifist bunch in the main, and it is understandably difficult for them given their non authoritarian stance to offer any clear condemnation of such behaviour.

The modern 12mm shell, is typically used in artilery regiment assault rifles, and is used in a clip sometimes alternating with smaller 5mm shells. As such varied armed forces use this ordinance in their varied duties. My former regiment totted up quite a few "kills" as "collateral damage" used to be called in our days in Cyprus using such bullets. Though that much said a few 12mm rounds fired at point blank range (that is less than 2 metres away) would make a mess of any non armoured vehicle such as a van or car, and if targetted at the correct area might "stop a lightly armoured vehicle" such as a heavy land rover.

Can I ask Rev. Ignatius if he has the complete porcelain set yet?

(see the transparent record of the Sunday Review/Preview/View/Sunday Papers Sept 7 -11 2003 vol 1. ed 1. published online at http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=60983)

I grew up in a region much afflicted by the common place existence of weaponry varying from automatic to light artillery, and feel like my tupence worth (see how I am intergrating) might be appreciated:

the 12mm bullet in a belt, implies a heavy machine gun weapon, and thus former British Army Officer resident in Eire has got it wrong.
Assault rifles only use clips.

The weapon which uses this ammunition was as the Rev. Ignatius PP suggested either a WW2 era anti-tank gun, or an Italian designed heavy machine gun, which is used for anti-aircraft fire.

Well I don't have a photo, and my local bishop would probably frown if my personal collection and hobby was publicised in the media, but I'd reckon something like that is pretty hard to come by.
Though oddly enough, it is often harder to find the bullets to go in the gun then to come by the gun itself.
I'd reckon there's probably an illegal arms dealer connection to this, or maybe it's a left over from some nearby conflict, perhaps some refugees brought it with them, or maybe the CIA donated it.

the poem:

Mister man he came
and he said
El rico tiene muchas casas.
Tu le doy una casa.
I said, I have a Kasa.

Mister man he came
y me dijó
el rico tiene muchas coches
I'll give you one car.
y le Dije
no sé conduizirrrr.

Mister Man he came
and he said to me;
El rico teine muchos pollas,

and I said to him:
Tengo qué explicarle usted unas pocas cosas.
I only had two fucking chickens.
y Usted no sabe nada/nao/res
you Sir know sweet F.A. about chickens.

the info:
This charming "story" began life in a movie made in the middle eighties in the USA about the disappearance of a young American writer Charles Horman during the coup d'etat of Pinochet on Sept. 11 in Chile.
It has remained as a representation of "anti-communist" spirit, and resurfaces often especially in the weeks immediately following the near annual showing on European TV of that movie.
Indeed as it is one of the few movies on Chile available, it is shown by "socialist" groupings during their talks. It is called "Missing" directed by Costa Gavras.

It is an example of "deep resonance" psychic manipulation.

The poem above is by Iosaf Mac Diarmada "the Ipsiphi" and is an example of something else.

Chickens and their sound, and their representation are increasingly being adopted by anti-War groups from London to Argentina.

Last night I saw a wonderful Argentinian circus group who are touring Europe use a balloon chicken to beat up a clown dressed as a Judge. The children mostly immigrants of the neighbourhood enjoyed making the sound.

The armies of the US/K brought the fist million chickens traditionally unclean animals into Iraq.
Because their present masters were too cowardly to tell the truth.
