The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

RTS IN BRAY : NOW

category dublin | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday July 06, 2003 17:06author by Conor Mc Gowan - Ucdsa/Cfeauthor email conor at ziplip dot com Report this post to the editors

Get down to mc donalds in bray

rts has arrived in bray from the city centre, bringing food from fnb , peace , good will, and an alternative to mc donalds shit "food".

The crowd are having a picnic outside mc donalds, which managed to fuck up a perfectly nice building right in the centre of bray, instead of their usual "drive thru" out of town shopping experience, so if youre in bray right now : head down to mc donalds { there'll be more than a grinning clown & mc meal to process you }

there was some minor minor typical c"i"e crap on the dart to bray. the crowd's "adbusting" diddnt go down well with corporal green jumper, and sargent luminous jacket, who propmtly put an end to such terrorism as balloon blowing, and poster turninginsideoutandpaintingrtsstuffonthem.

i would really like to know who is it that initiates the rts? who calls the meetings? who does up the posters and decides their design? who is it that came up with the idea of bray?

there are leaders of rts, the problem is you dont acknowledge it and they are unaccountable and unelected.

why ask a question that has been asked and answered time and time again? think beyond sheep-like existance, there are no bloody leaders, there are some people that put more time and energy and effort into these parties and picnics, that doesn't make them leaders. some people aare good at art, so they do posters, some people have free photocopying so they take care of that. everyone contributes whatever they want/can. anybody can call a meeting. anybody can make a poster or suggestion for a location. it only take s a few people to think yeah, great idea and it snowballs from there. try to have a little imagination. c'mon, this broken record is getting really boring.

Kitty 'leader of the gang' is an SP member. They can't imagine a world without people telling other people what to do and when to do it. So for them any organisation that has no leaders must have secret leaders.

well cheese yeah, i saw that a mile off. and what a malicious tone eh? though this medium is soooo open to interpretation. nonetheless i like (to try at least) to nip this warped thinking in the bud as and when it arises. it's a constant stream of new faces and enthusiasm (that's what keeps it fun) not the evil knuckle-rubbing henchmen some would like to think. for all the spectators out there who salivate over having a fun day out of yesterday's ilk... DIY!!!!
