All welcome. Here is our chance to discuss the issues that the Supreme Court case failed to even scratch the surface of. A public Meeting about the Old Head of Kinsale will take place this Thursday, (12th June, 2003) at the Imperial Hotel, South Mall, Cork at 8pm. The recent Supreme Court ruling was based on some quite astonishing assumptions, suggesting that the public never used to visit the Old Head: "There is presently no use of the golf course lands for general public access for any purpose: it seems to me that the effect of a public access condition is to create a new use and not to control or restrict an existing one" (No 45 in the judgement). The court case deliberately restricted itself to the discussion of one narrow aspect of planning law (s26 of the Local Governent (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, claiming that An Bord Pleanala overreached its authority in imposing a condition of public access as part of planning permission. At the meeting on Thursday, we will discuss what the ruling left out. What should the rights of the public be with regard to access? Do developers have any rights? Jump To Comment: 1 2Last Sunday television pictures were shown on a number of Irish and UK TV stations of former Boyzone star Ronan Keating arriving at the Old Head of Kinsale following his 300 mile plus walk along "the length of Ireland" (Anyone tell him that it should be Malin Head to Mizen Head and his Belfast to Old Head of Kinsale walk took many miles off his journey?)
What the cameras didn't show was that only Ronan and his immediate entourage were left onto the Old Head. The gates were firmly shut against members of the public who had come along to wish him and the other walkers well and congratulate them on their feat.
i mean why not have a meeting in kinsale or even, god forbid, the village that benefits most from the golf course ballinspittle?
