The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Colin Powell in Shannon Tomorrow

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday May 06, 2003 23:23author by Serioulsy I can't say (my friend's job may be on the line) - various Report this post to the editors

I have just been informed, through a very reliable security source in Shannon Airport, that tomorrow afternoon, Colin Powell will be touching down in Shannon for a few hours (refueling etc). It's not know if he will be leaving the plane. I swear I'm not making this up, and if the source is wrong, it's because he himself has been lied to.

it doesn't really carry much weight because no one knows who you are, or who your friend is. That's the problem with any sort of "secret inside information" that provides no verifiable or falsifiable data. We may not even be able to say afterwards whether or not it's true:
"Powell was there"
"Sez who? I didn't hear it anywhere"
"My secret informant tells me so, he was travelling with Elvis and Jim Morrison. Naturally the government won't admit this because the illuminati control them."

Anyway, be great if you could provide more details. Otherwise this is useless.

i know this probly seems like a spook thing. all i'm sayin is if you wanna turn up there, then do. i'm not out to make anyone seem like fools. i won't be there cos i live on the other side of the country. but i'm afraid i really can't say who i am cos of the person's job.

anyway, good luck to anyone who does go.

When supporters of the US or Israel post there is no requirement for sources to be quoted ... why?
We will see in due course if Powell appears ... if so the source is reliable and can be relied upon in future. Have some patience.

It didnt say anything on any news i seen. Mind you thats hardly a surprise.

I'll try and find out - but hey if I do find out he was there, you probably won't believe me anyway.

so what if he came in or if he didnt, what would ye have done about it anyway. set up a little tent at the airport entrance and plant potatoes on the road? get real ye fu**in idiots.
as for your secret source.. obviously an honourable and loyal guy if he can give info like that to you, must have loads of money if he can put his job on the line like that. not that hard to pin point where the source came from either
