We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Spanish Troops arrive with Water for the victims of War.

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 11, 2003 12:26author by ipsiphi.author address bcn Report this post to the editors

The Spanish armed forces arrived yesterday morning laden with Water for the Iraqi victims of War.

Spanish TV viewers were treated to extended pictures of Iraqi victims of war, forming a patient queue for 2 litres of water each. The commanding officer was pictured stroking the chin of a two year old child who has been transferred to a Spanish Naval Hospital. The Soundtrack however was not played fully on Spanish TV.

The children of Iraq, the victims of the US/K war prosecuted illegally by the USA and UK with the assistance and political support of the Kingdom of Spain, learnt their first words of Spanish yesterday.

They sang
"Guerra no Guerra no Guerra no!"

this song is also sung by the 87% reported as of today's newspapers in Spain to be against the War.
This song is sung by soldiers of the Spanish armed forces, by the families of Spanish police force members, by all on the streets of Spain and now on the streets of Iraq.

Where War turns to refugee crises.
turns to sanitation crises.
turns to Water crises.
turns to Reprisal, looting, theft, murder and chaos.

Yesterday the Spanish Stock Exchange IBEX lost .97% on total trading. The Barcelona Stock Exchange was closed for the day, and the shares of BBVA the main war profiteering bank in Spain fell also, by sector between 6.7% in Telecommunications to a mere 0.6% in other sectors.

Yesterday thousands took part in General Strike actions and pickets and boycotts and fiscal objection, free food, and photo actions accross the Peninsula. These actions varied from a minimum of two hours to twenty four.

In Barcelona the actions culminated with five thousand socialists, anarchists and pacifists forming a "no bomb" symbol of human bodies on Placa Catalonia in the centre of the city.

Afterwards the group "espai alliberat contra la guerra" projected a series of videos on the government buildings of their previous actions, including boycott days, free food and the opening of empty houses on
Placeta del Pi
Arc del Teatre at Parallel
and Dr Flemming street.
they also projected during a three hour cacerola which assembled under the banner "que sa vayan todos" which is Castillian spanish for "that they all go", videos of the eviction of their previous designated real world sites.
Espai alliberat contra la Guerra is presently occupying Placa St Jaume the seat of Catalan and Municipal government with tents, generator, discussion groups, infoshops, and free food daily.

Tomorrow's march to demand the immediate resignation of Aznar will assemble in the Catalan Capital at Plaza Espana.

Tomorrow the theme is "Aznar dimmision" to call for the resignation of Aznar who has of this morning been accused by a fellow party member of allowing the conditions of Feb 23 the attempted fascist coup date in recent Spanish history to re-emerge.
