The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

US imperialists Hands off socialist Korea!

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday April 09, 2003 22:10author by KIJFAN Report this post to the editors

American nuclear cowboys and imperialist military gangsters are a serious threat to the freedom of Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. Bush sees Korea as part of his stupid axis of evil and he wants to destroy socialism in DPRK. But we cannot let that happened. It is time to defend socialist Korea with Korean people and dear leader Kim Jong Il. Together we can stop Bush and give true socialism a change.

The Korean people regard the sovereignty of the country as valuable as their life and soul. Every nation has a right to independently shape and implement all policies suitable for the situation of the country and beneficial to its people, without others' interference.

Due to the U.S. high-handed practice for world supremacy, however, the sovereignty of some countries has been wantonly encroached upon and world peace and security threatened seriously.

The United States is infamous for its history of aggression and encroachment on the sovereignty of other countries. Korea is one of those countries that have had its sovereignty severely infringed upon by the U.S. imperialists. Their history of aggression on Korea, which began in 1866 with the intrusion into a Korean river by the U.S. pirate ship "General Sherman", gives the Korean people a serious lesson that national power should be built up to defend the sovereignty of the country.

The Korean people, to prevent their miserable bygones from being repeated, have built up a strong military power to defend themselves.
After the liberation of the country, they have developed the national economy, giving priority to the defence industry. Even in the period of the "arduous march" and forced march, they have strengthened the army and consolidated the defence power, overcoming difficulties under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The United States is now trying hard to inveigle the international community into the efforts to put pressure on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea over the "nuclear issue". But the Korean people have made no concession. They, supported by their strong defence power, will defend what they gained in the revolution at the cost of their blood, undaunted by the U.S. efforts to stifle the DPRK.

Defend socialist Korea!

Careful where you point your nuke No dong [translation in english. No penis] missile.Launch that at the USA and North Korea will be one big ex commie smoking slag pile. we should have let GEN Mac Arthur finish the job off with nukes in the 1950s.North Korea is another fine example of Stalinist communism not working, and now being aggressive to try and prove it.hands off south korea.

with the only thing the USA fears most - nukes. They love to bomb and murder defenseless civilians in poor countries from the safety of 30,000 feet, while their own cities are safe from attack.

this is not a posting by a socialist but by another fascist provocateur. N. Korea, like China, is not communist, not even socialist. It's a dictatorship of a hereditary elite.

It is quite possible they, Korea, would not be standing there shouting hostilities at the US and building "neuclear" bombs if they weren't named, post september 11, as being part of the "axis of evil."
After this name calling it all began ( well the serious shit anyway ). The IAEA inspectors were there and after this they were expelled. Also, after this they decided, and announced that they had decided, to begin their uranium enrichment programme.
As for defending socialist Korea. Ha.
Look, the capitalist system is fine ( ignoring US capitalism )-it just needs a few kinks worked out. We don't realise how lucky we are in Ireland. Not the best re-distribution of wealth but at least us state spongers get something.
I for one don't wanna live in a socialist economy where i would not have my economic freedom.

Im generally among the first to criticise every the united states do, not least in their military action. But If North Korea stand there and talk about how they are building Neuclear Bombs and openly tout their hostilities to the US then who in their right mind is gonna side with them?

Get a mini-call.
