The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Forget our War Crimes, Here's a 'Victory'

More vile lies from the murderers who just keep killing

In the absence of their ability to find weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein or even achieve full military and governmental control the US/UK have resorted to a media "COUP"

Obviously desperate to avoid massive fall out from their recent abnoxious war crimes the US/UK cleared a square in Baghdad today which they surrounded with tanks to protect their rent-a -mob from constant Iraqi Resistance as they played out their game for the cameras.

TV and radio stations around the world were primed with the story and good little lackeys like Joe DuffY did spectacular shows dedicated to spreading the false victory story. He even cut to Sky and BBC for live coverage of the "Liberation". The pro-war lobby were out in force on Joe Duffys show to try and demoralise anti-war people as best they could from continuing to protest.

Joe Duffy told us how "September 11th 2001 was a significant day for the world and so is the 9th of April 2003". Again he makes the link the US have tried to make... Sep 11th = Iraq. Well done Joe!

I wonder how significant April 9th 2003 will be as the days and bodies and atrocities continue.

I presume you can provide evidence to back yourself up in? Not that I am saying that this does not go on, but this appears more like opinion rather that fac. Factual reporting woul dbe nice.

Who needs the Iraqi regime when we have Ireland's own version of Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf right here on Indymedia.....

Except Mohammed is amusing, and has a little more integrity.

Factually speaking:

I counted 380 from FOX TV live footage of " the crowds" in Tahrir Square. Most of these were journalists or soldiers. Where are the other 5,000,000 liberated Iraqis?

How can this be reported as "crowds dancing in the streets"?

He points to the disparity between the obviously highly spun claims of jubilant Iraqis welcoming the victors and the actual visual evidence provided. He says that he counted 380 people in a small square. If you "Lone Gunman" or "King Mob" want to challenge this then you have to point to evidence that shows millions of grateful Iraqis.

Save your hysteria for the dead civilians or for the war-crimes committed by the US/K (thanks again iosaf!) who have targetted the water and electricity supplies in contravention of international law.

James puts spin on things, but he does use facts. You don't.

I am in fact trying to take the spin off this story.

The scenes in Tahir Sq were mostly manipulated for RTE and others so it seemed like a big crowd. From a greater distance it was possible to roughly count the crowd which I honestly attempted. I first estimated about 500 but as I counted more closely I came up with 380 but I'm no pope so this could be out by a couple of dozen maybe.

There were pictures of passing Iraqi waving from their cars to the TV cameras, which is not unusual in Iraq. There were a couple of young guys saying "down Saddam" and an old guy beating a picture of Saddam into strips. These images were repeated ad nauseum to give the "spin" that there was a bigger crowd.

Soldiers did not hang around in the Square and they were running for cover into hotels and banks to do their "interviews from the heart of the regime".

It's amazing how RTE vaunted this as "jubilant crowds" when they could sideline the protests we have held here against the war .

Did anyone hear the Dublin march of over 100,000 being called jubiant crowds calling for regime change?

Joe Duffy ended his show today with a woman reading from Isiah about a beast who lays the world to waste with war and does not even listen to his own people. It was meant to refer to Saddam but I think she perfectly described George Bush.

Did you ask her was she wearing her scapula Joe? Was Father Fortune wearing his when he jubilantly ......

I have no agenda to protect Saddam or his government but I do take an interest if my national broadcaster whose duty it is to relay the news faithfully to the Irish people starts to act in a very peculair fashion.
