The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

AID IRAQ - Weekly Dublin concerts - INVITATION

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday March 31, 2003 07:56author by Dmitriauthor email diminthedam at hotmail dot comauthor phone 087 1356665 Report this post to the editors

Invitation & flyer for weekly gigs rasing humanitarian aid for the people of Iraq

Below is information on my motivation behind this event and the schedule of the run. Please reply if you intend to come and on what night, and forward this onto anyone you may think is interested.

With this event, I aim to bring together all people opposed to war, tyrrany, imperialism, war crimes, and all other atrocities that cause the ultimate pain - human death and suffering. You will agree that this is the result, which we fight against. The night is to be a fund raiser (voluntary) collecting money to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq. The money will be donated to Red Cross & Red Crescent (the muslim aid organisation) and will allow for provision of water, food, shelter and hopefully many other causes that will help save human life in Iraq.

The evenings will be held:

every Wednesday (initially for 6 weeks)

beggining April 2nd at 7pm - 9th, 16th, 23nd, 30th....

in the Mezzannine bar - 23 Eustace st Temple Bar

The evening will begin with presenation from speakers and continue on to musical performances

A large crowd will see the downstairs nightclub opening with DJs playing. The asked contribution on the door (which goes directly to the said funds)is 5 euros, but this is voluntary

The evening will conclude at 11pm followed by a regular set from KingSativa band.

Good support for this night & cause will result in a large scale concert bearing the same fund raising purpose.

I can be contacted on 087 1356665 and diminthedam@hotmail.com

------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope we all come together to help those who are suffering right now. Please print the flyer (geocities.com/diminthedam) and stick it around and pass it on to your friends

Thank you

Dmitri Vitaliev
