The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

SWP/SAW pull back from stupidity

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 19, 2003 16:09author by Horatio Murphy - Insert Random SWP Front Report this post to the editors

The SWP (as "Schools Against War") has cancelled its 4:30 PM Day X rally in Belfast.

It appears that SWP/SAW have now cancelled what would have been an extremely stupid stunt and have fallen in behind the walkouts and 1:30 PM rally called by Youth Against War.

The call for a nice after school rally could only have had the effect of causing confusion and making it more difficult to organise significant strikes and walkouts in Belfast.

This is the second occasion that the SWP/SAW have cancelled similar plans in Belfast, the one area where their schools front exists. They previously had to shelve plans for a 4:30 rally on March 5, the day of the enormous walkouts across the North again called by Youth Against War.

To remind everyone, Youth Against War are organising school student walkouts at 12:30 and rallies at 1:00 across the North. In Belfast the rally will start at 1:30.

"Pat you have yet again made a complete fool of yourself. You actually think that SY have all thrie members sent onto indymedia to have a go at you. that's pathetic lol lol"

I think not, people here have seen the rantings of Finghin, ok, Brian cahill & DHeochai against me. The paper thin disguises being used by Sp & sy fool no one.

When the SP stop being opportunists & lying, I'll stop criticising them.

Now go away & get a life, I wont be back to this thread so rave on all you want.

Don’t flatter yourselves too much, I’m sure the ICTU wouldn’t mind handing the mantle for the organising of F15 to the YAW as well.
Also, if it’s appeasing senior teachers to hold after school rallies why in Dublin is the rally at 4pm? I’m pretty sure SAW and other anti-war activists will demonstrate at 4.00pm and 1.30pm

Catch yourselves on and get out of the swamp.

Most people on the left have a bit of respect for the work of SY and YAW. But you don't, why? basically because you have an irrational hatred of the SP. Now I think you are the one that needs to grow up and get over it.

My god! How many people do you think are browsing indy at the one time? Dont apply to join the secret police after the revolution.

"The issue it raises is one which you have raised before."

If you check you will see that I have raised it with the SWP in a fraternal manner. I understand the the sensitivities that have to be used and how it would be difficult for people from certain areas to be seen picketing army bases.

Others have raide it in a different manner.

"Face it, Pat. You got caught. Now fuck off."

You really are paranoid. Do you have no life of your own?

It really is laughable for an anonymous poster to make such accusations. Now toddle off and grow up.

Some pathetic little trot asked "Why doesn't pat Corcoran actually get up off his arse and get active in the anti war movement instead of getting on the internet and having a go at people that do"

So what have the swp done for the unfortunate Iraqi people? apart from running away from Shannon like cowards! How many US companies will they shut down when the bombing starts? the answer is none! Why dont they use their influence on SIPTU and the other unions in shannon to shut down the warport instead of bootlicking Des Geraghty?

What is it about the SP and their fronts? In particular the Tots 'n' Trots of SY. Do you actually read the debates? Do you see me as your sole bogeyman? Dont you realise how many people see you as opportunists?

Why dont you post under your own names? Then people would know whether you were active or not.

Did it also not cross your minds (given the subject matter ) that trot hater might actually be a swper?
