![]() "Ring your government TD's every hour on the hour to let them know that you want them to stop this unnecessary war on Iraq" said the Green Party's Kristina McElroy speaking at a press conference to publicise the nation wide protests on Saturday March 8th called by IAWM to focus attention on to the real targets of the proposed attack on Iraq. She went on to say " If the Irish government is truly committed to the UN and the multilateral approach it should protest strongly against Anglo American war mongering. The fact is that a pre emptive strike is in breach of the UN charter itself and cannot be justified" "People-power can stop this war and people power will enable the citizens of Iraq overthrow Sadam Hussein. The sanctions on Iraq must be lifted. If the citizens of Iraq had food in their stomachs ,clean water to drink and the continued support of the international community and the UN. Sadam could be overthrown without millions of Iraqis dying needlessly" "Maybe then Bertie will listen to Irish people. He seems to have ignored the 150,000 who marched on February 15th" "Sadam Hussein will be safe in his bunker but the women and children of Iraq will be brutaly maimed and killed by the weapons of mass destructions that George Bush and Tony Blair intend to hurl at the defenceless population of Iraq." Kristina McElroy went on to ask "People to support the demonstration on Saturday 8th across the country" |

Why no mention of Iraqi men ? Don't they deserve to live also? (This is not a facetious posting on my part, I genuinely object to the notion that men are more dispensable than women and children. It's time to ban this outdated cliche aboout "women and children", and I am very disappointed that any Green Party member would trot it out.).
The Cork anti-war demonstration will gather at Daunt Square at 1pm, before marching through the city centre to Emmet Place (beside the Opera House) for speeches and music. Speakers include Dan Boyle TD (GP), Sen. Brendan Ryan (LP), Joe Higgins (SP), and Mary Kelly (ex-Shannon Peace Camp. Musicians will include John Spillane and Hank Wedel. All welcome!
Ask Senator Ryan why the leader of the Labour Party, Pat Rabbitte, believes the war is justified if the U.S. succeeds, through bribery and bullying, in getting the Security Council to support them.
Ask Shelta why his/her only contribution to this site is to add comments every time the word Labour or Sinn Fein is mentioned. No matter what the context.
Me, I think that "Shelta" is a robot that auto-detects certain words and puts a random post in response.
Is Shelta a member of the Workers' Party? It would all make sense if that were true.
That was very funny NV. Made me laff, it did!
"People-power can stop this war and people power will enable the citizens of Iraq overthrow Sadam Hussein"
What is people-power. The SWP have been using this term in relation to the war as well as the Green Party. If it's capable of overthrowing Sadam Hussein then is must be pretty powerful indeed.
People power.
When people take strike action and take to the streets to overthrow a government, this is people power. Look at Serbia and the overthrow of Milosovic for example.
Iraqi people have tried people power before. It didn'y do them any favours. Under certain conditions, people power is not possible. Sadly, the only way forward is force.
