We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

B52s cross Irish Airspace

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday March 06, 2003 21:05author by Sean Cullen Report this post to the editors

B52s sighted over North Mayo

A neighbour sighted two aircraft flying very close together this evening about 5.45pm near Belmullet heading East. He got his camcorder out and used the digital zoom. We examined the footage, which was quite poor (its a basic camcorder) and with the zomm there was a lot of shake, but it looked like two B52s. 4 engines (I know there are 8 but they are paired off), very dark colour all over and a largish tail.

This was definately in Irish airspace.

I spotted two similar planes over Cork this morning around 9.20am, flying at high altitude. Each had four engines.

Could also have been C5 Galaxy. How high appx? B52 operates over 3miles high. And how could you Id its tail fin if it was that high?BTW how high is irish airspace before it becomes free space?

They're probably part of the 14 B-52s going to RAF Fairford ahead of being sent to slaughter people in the Gulf.

Legally you might as well be letting them land here as letting them fly over. complicity is complicity.

Irish airspace goes up a hell of a lot more than 3 miles... commercial international traffic is normally more than 5 miles up.

Could also be one of many million 4 engined aircraft that overfly regularly..
Rule out the Galaxy because it has a High T Tail

Military aircraft do not usually practice formation flying at 70000feet..

Most possibly a 747,707 A340, But wait..I know that soldiers often use these types to go on holidays....so they must be military also..Lets wreck them too..while we are at it lets raid irish Refining because they make oil products..and we know oil is the root of all evil...
Then lets boycot all Oil based products because they are all the work of GW Bush..so all synthetic materials such as PVC,Nylon have to be boycotted...so there go most of the clothes we wear, except for things made out of silk wool and hides..and animals are hurt by our use of them,so lets all run around naked instead...
and we cant live in a house because the quarry where the stone came from is carried by a oil burning truck, which we cannot allow to be used, and in the quarry once lived some rare form of butterfly, whose habitat may be destroyed...

so why not just go back to living in the stone age? Unless I am mistaken that seems to be the final ambition of the narrow minded plebs who use this site anyway..
No offence but I will carry on living the way I am. Eating dead animals, using their skins to make my boots, using their million year old bones to fuel my car,and thanking god that I live in a country where lunatics like the free everything movement are allowed to walk the streets while the good law abiding, taxpaying citizens are held prisioner inside their own homes and places of work because of the actions of a couple of misguided anarchists.

Hope you all die screaming.

A country's airspace goes all the way up! That's why the US is having some problems about moving planes and troops about - some middle east countries will not let them fly over.

As for attacking oil refineries - there's no point. They will all be going in 25 years or so anyway when the oild starts to run dry.

when people used to park outside Dublin Airport for some plane spotting. It suddenly got so much more exciting for them. Ooh look dad a B52 about to blow up some Iraqi kids. That 's right sun look at it's wings. Just like a spaceship!
