Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Why is Ireland accepting "Asylum" seekers? Everyone KNOWS that these scemes are nothing but SCAMS! In the US immigration attourneys encourage their clients to "exaggerate" their claims! What is the purpose of these programs; to empty out Africa , Eastern Europe & other areas of the world? You should take a lesson from the misstakes of the U.S.! Do you want Ireland to become like the USA?
Nice one on this article, I am unable or maybe unwilling;o) to pay for sir reillys news, so a link wouldn't be much use to me.
Asylum seekers and refugees aren't where we need to worry about becoming too like the USA, we've have some of the worst habits already.
We share a number of the defining traits of modern America, amongst these conspicuous consumption and the cult of celebrity are prominent. We also share that sense of almost childlike wonder as global capitalism allows us to grow fat on the expoitation of the less fortunate.
Our methods for dealing with asylum seekers and immigrants couldn't be more different than the Americans. Whilst the American system uses immigrants as grist to the mill, we won't let people work, we won't let them live independently, we won't even let them cook their own food. We lock our guests up in shitty hostels in the middle of nowhere, then force them to eat Cambells Catering slop. At least when we have to eat such crap, we're at work being paid to do so.
This seeming difference is an indicator of just how much we are coming to share one of the least desirable of the American traits. When having to deal with something new, different or challenging, our all too frequent tendency is panicked reaction and then move quickly on to something else with little or no thought given to the issue, its causes or its consequences.
Just to sat to Thomas Francis Porter that I think you are doing some asylum seekers a grave injustice.
when your ancestors went to the US namy people there were saying exactly the same thing. Everyone knows the Irish Famine was just a scam.
Fair enough, but I wouldn't say the Irish were moaning about the standard of catering they got when they arrived!
We need to stop the influx of black people into our country, these people are stealing our wives and boyfriends. My wife is drooling over Andre shoukri already, the next thing I know my boyfriend, will run off with a black fella with bigger dick than mine. Please keep Ireland white, I left Britain to escape black people, because of my fear of blacks stealing my wife and boyfriends, only to find the problem spreading to Ireland.
