Mary Kelly is INSIDE besieged bethlehem church.

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday May 02, 2002 21:23author by PEACE INTHE MIDDLE EAST - Friends of Mary Kelly Report this post to the editors

Cork Nurse infiltrates Church of the Nativity- with food, aid.

Just recived this from another friend of Mary. What the UN or CNN won't tell us, Mary sure as hell will. This woman better be on the Late Late when she gets home.

2nd May 2002 stop press 6.0 p.m. Irish time - Mary Kelly rang approx. one hour ago from INSIDE the besieged Nativity Church in Bethlehem. Herself and 10 others out of 20 who attempted to enter managed to get in. She has a cellular phone, Mary is determined to stay inside until the situation of threat and starvation changes. That is all we know for now.

--------------------------------------------
MARY KELLY has just phoned (again) from inside the besieged Church of the Nativity to tell how she got in. The strategy was: two groups, one to create a diversion while the other got in with food and medicine. She was in the diversion group. While they were being surrounded and arrested, she glanced towards the door of the church and saw it was unguarded and dived over quickly and got in! They managed to get in some rice and lentils - whether enough for the 200 people in there, we don't know. She says someone high up in the Palestinian Administration phoned in to congratulate them on what they are doing for his people.

She's certainly getting the stories out.

Now that Kate Aidie has been sacked it's people like Mary Kelly who take the big risks help the people in dangerous situations and to tell the truth about what's going on in the warzones.

Hear Mary's telephone interview (on 6.01 news today) from inside the church.

I hope MARY manages to get the Arab GUNMEN out of the Church and tell them that they have desecrated it by breaking in to it 4 weeks ago and abusing the SANCTUARY of the Church for nefarious purposes.
A Church is not a place to hide murderers and Mary has a job now to get them to leave and let the priests get back to serving the Lord .

Are the priests not serving the Lord by tending to those who have sought their help?

Who are you to tell someone their job?

Have you ever been a nurse or a priest?
Have you ever seen someone killed in crossfire and thought "oh, well, collateral damage"?

Mary is a NURSE.
Her job is to give medical aid to those who need it.
As a peace activist she is also doing her job, by reporting the truth and trying to prevent further loss of life.

Priests can give refuge to people who seek it.

Despite IDF reports to the contrary the priests have said that they are not hostages. If the priests believe the people will be killed if they remain outside then the priests are within their rights to give refuge.

Why don't you tell the IDF their job is not to slaughter people wholesale, but to defend their country, not kill civilians or make injustices worse and create more suicide bombers?

The gunmen (in uniform) are the Zionist killers laying siege to the church. Perhaps George could persuade them to go home, but since the aggression was no doubt cleared in advance with Washington, that's rather unlikely to happen.
Unlike bertie & co. we can be very proud of a brave and caring person like Mark Kelly.

When is she going to be a human shield for Jewish families who are at risk of suicide bombers - the murderers that she's going to look after?

author by Tim Houriganpublication date Sat May 04, 2002 18:25author address author phone Report this post to the editors

What type of hateful comment is that?
Mary's bringing food, water and medicine, not spare ammo or explosives. I doubt you'd be that brave.

At the refugee camps in Nablus Mary was helping innocent Palestinians who were being basic human rights by the IDF.
And if you think she's wrong to give food and water to people, just because some other members of their society committed a crime, then you're hardly civilised.

Israeli ambulances are not being held up or destroyed. Israeli water and electricity is not cut off. Mary obviously went where she was needed most. Where ambulances and aid were being blocked, where the media was not allowed.
If you continue thinking you can punish an entire population as retalliation for the actions of the few then you're going to have the same problems for a long time.

As for human shield for Israelis, that's hardly possible now is it? Nor is it Mary Kelly's fault.

Given that suicide bombers don't announce their
targets before hand it's not possible to guard individual people.
The IDF has the right and the role to protect people from suicide bombers. It doesn't have the right to kill innocent palestinians in a counter productive offensive. If they were killing only the terrorist Palestinians, the world wouldn't be appalled, but the IDF is showing the same disregard for civilians as the suicide bombers that it condemns.

If I was as narrow minded as you, I'd ask that the Palestinians had tanks and F-15s so they could drive into Jewish settlements and through Jewish houses.
By your logic, it seems, using the tanks to kill innocent people would be legitimate, so long as the tank drivers don't kill themselves in the process.

To quote Mark Sofer, Israeli spokesman and Ambassador to Ireland - "There is no military solution to this problem"

author by Tim Houriganpublication date Sat May 04, 2002 18:39author address author phone Report this post to the editors

You're not even brave enough to put your name on the web and you're criticising someone who risks her life to bring medical aid.

Just because some evil Palestinians are responsible for the deaths of Israeli's doesn't mean that all Palestinians lose their rights.
They have the right not to have their houses destroyed, not to be deprived of food or water, tortured, to have medical aid when they need it.

Being Palestinian does not automatically make you a terrorist or subhuman.
To think otherwise makes you a racist and no better than people who think all Israeli's are just like Sharon, and therefore 'legitimate targets'.

If you're so full of criticism for murderers, do you have any for Sharon, seeing as he's a war criminal.

Don't take the moral high-ground if you're not prepared to be honest.
The politicians on both sides of this have bloody hands. The civilians are dying on both sides.
People like Mary Kelly are trying their best to end that. People like you never will.
